We spent a long weekend here in the riverside lodges and it was absolutely amazing. Would strongly recommend white water rafting (we did the grade 3-5 trip - and most of us were first timers) and horse trekking. All staff were great, knowledgable and friendly.

One of the highlights of our trip to NZ was this place beautiful accomodation rustic meals and amazing food and loved the swing you can use or rather a flying fox to get across the other side of the water!!! Only here two days and wasn't long enough wanting to stay a week next time to fish and go horse... More

Kia ora Carmen Thank you for your review. We do love getting reviews such as yours where people "get" the place. River Valley is an adventure Lodge, and you really do get the most out of a stay if you get outside and do stuff. Thanks also for the comment about the food. did you know much of this comes... More

We spent New Year's Eve here and it was a night to remember, especially the dinner, which was absolutely delicious. We stayed in the 16 bed dorm, but we were only 8, so we had plenty of space between us. Otherwise I must say that the concept of putting the beds one next to the other with no separation is... More

Kia ora Jordi Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at River Valley. Food - totally agree, delicious and often amazing, with those fresh flavours coming straight from our on site garden. The big dorms - when we built the original Lodge back in 1987, we modeled it after a very big back country... More

As a family we did the rafting and are quite new to that activity. Ants was our river guide and while we were a challenging group, he handled our boat with expertise and lots of humor. We were cracking up the whole time! One of the highlights of our trip!!

Very cool and cozy little lodge in the middle of nowhere. Best place in NZ to go White Water Rafting. Perfect crew... Awesome food and very cool atmosphere! A good place to relax and enjoy nature. Five Stars!

Had an amazing time at the Lodge the staff at the lodge were so helpful and uplifting. The food was outstanding, homemade and fresh. Happy hour was 20-21 alright price but all the drinks were a little crappy the happy hour wine was from chile which was disappointing seen as NZ has great wine. We stayed in the dorm which... More

Kia ora Lauren Thanks for taking the time to write this review. We will look into NZ wine being the happy hour wine. Did you know the big dorms are modeled after back country tramping huts and are the standard type of layout in these buildings? Hope to see you back one winter. All the best Brian More

We rolled up on a dreary day and we were warmly welcomed inside, the place evoked memories of youth in the outdoors, the rooms were beyond expectations thou, family room that would hold its own in a 4star hotel, we were treated to a good ol kiwi roast but its the outdoors that set it apart, we often take for... My son and I had a fantastic 4 days with River Valley Lodge, the entire experience was superb, the scenery, the river, wildlife, rafting, horse riding, accommodation, food and above all the attention of the staff who went out of their way to make everyone feel part of the family. Great place to stay, feels like you're staying over at a friends house. The staff were very friendly & all from different nationalities which was cool. Bed was comfortable & the room was cozy. Kia ora Thank you for your review. It is always so good to hear positive comments about our staff. These are the people who work hard to give great experiences. Thank you for mentioning them. Wifi, the bane of our lives! Being to a certain extent in the "wop wops", it is difficult to keep this up and running smoothly.... More

When I arrived the staff couldn't do enough to help. The private room was beautifully furnished and comfortable, I only wish I could have stayed for more than one night. The dinner and breakfast was excellent and very filling. The best part was the morning spent trekking on horses around the farm. It was strange at first getting used to... More

Kia ora Fiona Thank you for your review. Natural Horsemanship is what provides the passion at River Valley Stables. It involves a more holistic approach to the relationship between horse and rider, which if done well, provides a better experience for both. Also good to hear that your room and the food was excellent. Much of the latter is grown... More
