A group of five of us came and stayed in a family room which was very spacious and it had its own bathroom. River Valley is a place to get away from it all, a beautiful spot where you can have a great social time. We did the rafting during the day and went down the road and went on... More

Travelled with Kiwi Experience (so did stay in the "32 share room" which wasn't bad at all) comfy matresses with adequate space. Such a beautiful serene place, and well kept as well. Kirk especially was awesome at providing entertainment throughout the night with games etc. And the bargirl (whose name escapes me sorry) was friendly and always smiling. Staff at... More

Travelling with the kiwi ex bus and stayed in the 32 bed dorm which is different to say the least. It needs a good clean and beds changed; very uncomfortable and a bit too close to the randomer next to you! All beds are lined up in a row with no gaps. Wifi terrible and honestly for what they offer... More

Hi James Thanks for taking the time to do a review. Yes we are in the middle of nowhere. That is the whole idea of River Valley. The dorm you stayed in is modeled after a New Zealand back country tramping hut, the same as used on all the great walks. I doubt they have great wifi either. Places like... More

This lodge is in the middle of nowhere and it was probably my favorite hostel experience during my time in New Zealand. The lodge is a midst breathtaking scenery and has a very cozy feel. However, you do have to pay extra for a duvet and the toilets are outside so be prepared. There are pretty tight quarters and a... More

Hi Caroline Thanks for your review. Just to let you know, duvets are now standard and included with the style of room you booked. We listened to people! All the best Brian More

Lovely staff. Power went off around 3pm, not so cool because couldn't use the kitchen but did have a lovely roast dinner cooked by the staff - had to pay 15 dollars though. Toilets were outside, do have a torch handy! Paid a bit extra for the duvet! The lodge is lovely but in the middle of nowhere so get... More

The hostel was nice enough and had a homely feel to it. But all the food was super pricey and the kitchen facilities were poor for how much we were paying. The slumber room was not cheap enough for how many people were squished in, plus you had to pay extra for a duvet which added up being as much... More

Tucked away deep in a valley next to the Rangitikei, this was the highlight of my visit to New Zealand's North Island. We booked the Double Trouble package, which included a night in one of the Deluxe Rooms, with dinner and breakfast included. The room was connected to two others and facing the river. It was small, but comfy. The... More

We are a family of 4. Mum, Dad, !6yr old girl & 13yr old boy. We'd already spent 3 weeks in NZ & having done a 10 day road trip down South already we were really hoping for a good night's sleep before our rafting the next day. We were not disappointed. The family room was a delight. The kids... More

We stopped off here for 1 night as part of a tour. The setting is remote and beautiful - the perfect place to relax after a couple of weeks on the road. Unfortunately there were not enough people to go rafting so we opted for the horse riding and loved it! Lizzie (our instructor) was brilliant and so knowledgeable -... More

My partner and I stayed at River Valley Lodge on Saturday 12/07/14. We purchased the double trouble package which included a beautiful room with river views, 3 couse dinner and breakfast in the morning. Food was amazing! Room was warm and very comfortable! Staff very friendly and helpful. The location of this lodge is just breathtaking, a must see when... More
