Friendly and helpful staff. Good food, comfortable room. Wanted an extra night and was fitted in. Great location. Would definitely return. Free WiFi in Reception area and some rooms. Convenient for Dunnet Forest, John O' Groats, Castle of Mey and day trips to Orkney.

My wife and I stayed here for one night whilst travelling the North Coast 500 route in Early August. The welcome was fine, the room was a large room, which attracted a small premium. The room was clean and well appointed, as was the en suite bathroom. The only downside in the room was the small TV, which is easily... More

We stayed at the Northern Sands for 3 nights in a family room. Our room looked to have been recently modernised and was very comfortable - although a mirror in the bedroom (there was only one in the bathroom) would have been a very helpful addition. Throughout our stay all stay were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were very good and... More

Well placed Hotel right by the beach, close to John O'Groats and Thurso. Very friendly staff, fantastic breakfast. Very well run. Lovely kept beer, try the Scapa from Orkeney, delicious. In mid July, my daughter, wife and I, stayed here for 1 night on the far northern coast of Scotland between Thurso and John O Groats and in sight of Dunnets Bay and mainland Britain‘s northern most point, Dunnets Head. We found it to be a nice well put together hotel. Our family room had a distant view back down... More

Imagine on a very cold Saturday afternoon in July, we ended up to spend our Scotland adventure tour in this hotel. We warmly welcomed by the guy at reception. He was the only man in hotel. Working behind the bar, kitchen and reception. Hotel itself is not luxury or great, but it turned up we had a memorable evening. We... More

Nice room, but quite small. The en-suite were well appointed and more importantly the shower had good power and temperature control, even though it is an electric type. All the staff were friendly and the food provide was good but not cheap. There is not a lot around the hotel, but the views are good. I could not get wifi,... More
