We booked to stay for one night, or at least we thought we had. When on arrival we discovered that we had not been booked in, they managed to find my partner and me a room. It turned out that I needed to confirm on the external accommodation website, so no fault of the hotel. The room was spacious and... More

My wife and I spent a night here while touring Scotland. The hotel is located a short walk from the very scenic beach at Dunnet. Our room was fine with a comfortable bed and ensuite bathroom with a bath rather than a shower. The room and upstairs corridors could do with a makeover, although you need to remember that you... We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of July 2014. We had not booked and luckily for us they had one room . Very friendly staff and good food in the restaurant. The breakfast was great. The rooms we had could do with a facelift but was comfortable and clean. The area is spectacular as Dunnet Head is... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in July, 2 adults and 2 kids. There were only 2 beds and the kids didn't want to sleep together, so one slept on cushions on the floor. We probably should have asked for another bed once we saw the room. The hotel is a bit weathered, but the location is great. It is... More

We found the Northern Sands Hotel to be a friendly older style hotel. Our double room was huge, and although older, the room and bathroom were clean, and the bed was comfortable. We ate dinner in the restaurant - the food was good (I had the locally caught fish), and not expensive. Breakfast was very nice, and plenty of it.... More

We stayed here with our two children aged 12 & 14. The hotel was in a great location with nice rural views. The room was a very good size and comfortable. The delicious sauce on the chicken made this one of the best meals we had in the UK. The breakfast was tasty and plentiful.

Day 3 of our cycle trip around North East Scotland saw us stay at the Northern Sands. The welcome was courteous and professional and the room I had was OK, pretty small even for a single but comfortable and, bliss, my own ensuite! As I was in for only one night, it wasn't a problem. Only minor negative issue for... More

The hotel is a little drive outside thurso but worthwhile the drive. Close to a beach and the UK actual northliest point (Dinner head), it's also just a short drive away from Castle of Mey, John O'Groats and Scrabster ferry terminal. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and you felt welcome from the moment you entered... More
