When I was looking to go diving at Sipadan and Mabul, I found there were either very expensive options or very cheap ones, like this place. I had a pretty great four nights here, but that was mostly because I did twelve dives, so I spent every possible minute away from the hostel. I think the biggest downer of my... More

Am really pleased with the fantastic service provided by the local Sabahans. Their hospitality is part of what made the stay an awesome holiday. The beautiful sea and its underwater wonders is an amazing sight. My teenaged kids have helped in a turtle conservation centre in malacca when they were much younger and even released the hawksbill turtle hatchlings to... More

This is the place to be if you want a true diving experience. The Longhouse is wonderfully basic with cold showers, simple shared rooms, and great all-you can-eat-deliscious food. There is a close connection with the village. Local staff are more than just employees, they make you feel part of the family. When I was there, a 5 day wedding... More

Good location on Mabul Island just 30 min boatride from Sipadan which is just amazing. 1hr transfer from ugly Semporna. Sipadan permits are shared with other diveoperators so you could end up to leave very early from Mabul to Semporna(!) to get an other boat from Semporna to Sipadan and passing Mabul on the way. Very friendly, competent and helpful... More

yes, the showers are not the best and the wifi isn't working mostly, but the food is good and the price is fair and which is more importantant, it's a AWSOME locatoin for diving!!! the staff is really friendly (locals and divemaster) and they show you a lot of really cool stuff under water (cuttlefish, seahorse, huge!! turtles, baracudas, sharks.......)... I booked this as a last minute dive holiday, with no fixed idea of where to stay. My budget was completely open, from high to low given the timing. I travelled on my own. Sipidan, com informed me that everywhere was full with the exception of Mabul Backpackers. What a stroke of luck that was. Ok, so i have stayed in... More

I was supposed to stay 4 days there, I ended up staying six, I couldn't stay longer because I got to get back home. It is a very nice place to stay whith a good price/quality ratio. Of course it is a budget accomodation so do not expect anything too fancy. BUT the food is very tasty, different and with... More

MPORTANT: if you want your own bathroom and/or an AC room, DON'T consider this place. As it says in the title it is a Backpacker place! I spent a month in this backpack place doing my Dive Master course, so I had time to see a lot of people visiting and should be able to give you a proper feed-back.... More

I was only intending to stay in Mabul Backpackers for 3 days 2 nights, but ended up spending my whole one week vacation time with them. Excellent dive instructor, (friendly and knowledgeable). Awesome dive master that took me to see my first seahorse... ended up doing my Rescue and EFR with them. The accommodation is decent for the price, had... More
