My favourite hotel during our euro-trip was definitely at Hotel Mittaghorn! Here are my reasons: 1) Beautiful Scenery - after a good night's sleep, we wake to up breathe-taking view of the snowy mountains. Note that we went in mid-September! 2) Hotel - clean, very comfortable, WiFi available, safe surroundings all around. It was a fun challenge to take and... More

The hotel is very old, and probably needs some cleaning. There was a propane smell that was a bother. The beds not very comfortable, and it was dark and dank and kind of awkward being there. However, it is exciting just to get there by gondola, and the mountains are incredible in the Alps. I would do a day trip,... More

Out of seven stops in four countries, the Hotel Mittaghorn is the one I would most love to return to someday. Walter and Tim are wonderful hosts. Tim solicited a lot of very good advice on hikes and excursions over our breakfasts and dinners. The family style dinners (cooked by Walter himself) with Tim and the other guests were very... More

This place is a slice of heaven. We stayed for 4 nights. Tim set us up every day with an action packed day. We went hiking, biking, and climbing. As mentioned in other reviews, it is an old rustic hotel. Simple but very clean. We had so much fun that we rerouted our plan and are coming back next month.... More

Had been to Gimmerwald's hostel years ago in my backpacking days. Saw this hotel mentioned in Rick Steeves book. It was fabulous! Great value! Tim and Walter, 90 yr old owner and excellent cook, so accommodating. Simple, all unstained pine furniture, shared bath with 1 Fr shower for which Tim left Swiss francs, creaky floor boards. Woke to sun shining... More

Gimmelwald is beautiful crown in Switzerland and hotel Mittaghorn is THE jewel in this crown. We enjoyed three days here and were very happy with the location and the hotel itself. Its more like vacation rental. Though we didn't meet Walter, we had opportunity to eat tasty food cooked by ' the chef'. Tim is very knowledgable and his suggestions... More

We had a great stay for four nights at the Mittaghorn, There are hikes leading in several directions right from the hotel and you could spend a week exploring the immediate area. The room views here are without doubt the best in Gimmelwald, although you have to make the hike up the hill with your luggage to benefit from these,... More

My husband and I really loved this place! We wished we could have had more nights here. The room was adequate, nothing special, but the views were amazing. The area was very quiet and peaceful with many hiking paths. Walter is a great cook, and the price for dinner here was better than any other prices we could find! We... More

There is no way you could get a room with a view like this for $116 in the states! On top of that, the homey atmosphere is great--meeting others and chatting. Tim provides excellent service and advice for hikes and other activities. Walter provides the best meals we've had in Switzerland and at the best price! We've been here three... More

My wife and I enjoyed 2 nights here. The views were spectacular. I would consider this a hostel, but it is very comfortable if you have that perspective. If you have a car, you can drive to Stechelberg and park there, taking to cable car to Gimmelwald.
