I'm only giving this hotel 2 stars due to it's great location directly on Lake Brienz. The balcony views are outstanding and it's nice to hear the lake from your room. However, the hotel itself is very expensive for what you get. It's extremely dated. Extremely! The room is very small and has old, worn carpeting. The pillows are like... More

Time seems to have stopped at Brienz and particularly at this establishment. The rooms are old, from another era, with tired carpets and the faint smell of old smoke. My room had the tiniest bathroom, with one cubicle for the toilet and another for the shower. It was impossible to fix the shower to the wall so you had to... More

We recently spent two nights at this site with a lake view balcony on our room. The room price is great value when compared to nearby Interlaken and without the herds of tourists plaguing Interlaken. Ask for a lake view balcony with an in-room WC. We were only puzzled about one thing with this hotel. There were ample quantities of... More

We spent a couple of days at Seehotel Baren, after months of working non-stop, just to relax and get some Aryuvedic treatments. This was our second time and like before we were again pleasantly surprised by the friendly service and excellent food. The massages that Maurizio did help us enormously and we felt stress evaporate over the two days we... More

The Seehotel Baren is, as the name suggests, right on the shore of Lake Brienz, the deepest lake in Switzerland, that is fed by the Aare river and runoff from the glaciers and surrounding mountains. Run by the welcoming Werro family, the hotel provides an environment that is designed to make you feel at home. Children are welcome. Staff are... More

Visitors to the Bernese Oberland who are lucky enough to discover the small town of Brienz on the shore of the lake that bears its name (the Brienzersee) will soon find themselves in a wonderland of natural splendor and unlimited recreational opportunities - easily accessible to, but somewhat insulated from, the hustle and bustle of the tourist centers of Interlaken... On my way to the south of Switzerland I wanted to take the route along Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and enjoy a relaxing evening. I had a room with balcony towards the lakeside, and the view into the mountains was magnificient. Even though dinner time was over when I went to the Restaurant, they gladly offered me a tasty... Since the first time I arrived here in 1995, I have been ecstatic to come home to Hotel Baren located on the most beautiful and serene Brienzersee. Each member of the staff is attentive, friendly, and professional. My favorite aspect of this family hotel are the yellow pillowcases and down comforters, not to mention the breathtaking views of either the... More

Sitting out on the balcony looking over the lake made the room great. The facilities in the room itself were average although we did get a massage chair! You need to specifically ask for a room with toilet and shower/ bath otherwise you might be sharing facilities. Very nice breakfast. We felt that we never really tuned into the place... More
