The place is colorful with amazing art decor. I loved each room. The only problem was that it is too far from the center of San Jose and the taxi ride is about $25. Other than that, I loved our one night stay there.

There are a few pluses and a few minuses for Corteza Amarilla, but I guess compared with other places around Costa Rica is pretty alright.
Pros
Safe place, nice garden, good wifi, helpful person at the desk in the mornings with limited English though, Daniela - works on Thursday nights is very helpful and speaks perfect English (I lost my...

San Jose was just a quick stopover on our way to the rainforest but I wanted to have as nice an experience as possible, which is why I was intrigued by this hotel. I definitely made the right choice in staying here instead of a chain hotel. The owner, Jorge, has done a wonderful job of interior design, and the...

Well located in Ciudad Colón, around 15 minutes on the highway from San José, a beautiful house, owned by artist Jorge Salgado, pop art filling every corner of the rooms, gardens, and hotel facilities. Breakfast is included and offers coffee, fruits, and traditional Costa Rican "gallo pinto." Me and my wife loved it!

Most people when coming to Costa Rica spend at least one night in the San Jose due to their arriving or departing flight. There are lots of traditional options around the airport, Hampton Inn, Marriott, etc.
All which are good choices but I prefer to stay just outside the city in one of the many towns that surround San Jose....

"Art lodge" does accurately describe this hotel. Eclectic funky chandeliers n lots other decor make this a most unusual hotel. Problem is the room, food, service. AC not working in orig room so offered another room which smelled very musty. We returned to orig room n they fixed the ac. Clock not plugged in cuz cord too short. Faucet wobbly...

I'm a bit puzzled by all the good reviews. We arrived at 1030 pm from the airport, after travelling all day. Yes, it is an unique, quaint place, however the rooms are situated around the lobby and bar/restaurant. Music was blasting until midnight and we could hear every word being said by patrons until 1 am (at which point i...

We stayed here when we first arrived and when we were leaving Costa Rica. It was a very nice hotel with some amazing landscaping. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The service was good and the food in their restaurant was very good (although a little pricey). As it was our first stop on our Costa Rican vacation, it...

We took more pictures of the eclectic decor at the Corteza Amarilla than we did at any other location on our trip. Not only was the Corteza amazing to look at but it was a comfortable place to rest our heads. The breakfast we had at the hotel was terrific. Although we did not have dinner at the Corteza we...
