Although highly recommended to us by friends we were very disappointed by the quality of food in the restaurant. We were greeted with the question "Do you want meat?" which was repeated three times. My partner chose roast chicken which turned out to be as plain and tough as two small pieces of chicken could really be ($20)....and I had... more

We stayed for just one night after arrival to San Jose and it was a great way to start a vacation. The highlights: great customer service, good restaurant and, most of all, a feeling of being in a special place. more

The Corteza Amarilla has a lot of personality! the rooms are very nice and the people and service were outstanding. We had an early flight so our check out was before the restaurant opened. Rafeal had boxed up fruit and bagels for our ride to the airport. That is going beyond what we expected. Absolutely a great place! Steve Romnes more

Our whole family, all 13 of us stayed at the Corteza Amarilla Lodge on two occasions and each visit was special. When you have a group the size of ours it isn't always easy to meet all the needs of everyone. But this staff did an excellent job. The rooms were spacious, the grounds beautiful and the decor was creative... more

I loved this place. The only problem I had is that I didn't get to stay there long enough. The rooms are very nice and the grounds are amazing. The restaurant is wonderful and the menu is fantastic with lots of interesting items to choose from. Raphael, one of the owners, made us feel completely at home. When you stay... more

The Corteza Amarilla went above and beyond accomodating my wedding party from the states. I also had my wedding of 107 attendees hosted by the excellent staff, till this day my friends and family are still talking about that Saturday in May. The 10 hours of festivity was unforgettable even after power was lost the afternoon of my wedding party... more

We stayed here twice during our Costa Rica travels. It was perfect. Lovely room and the food was very good. We were recommended by Casa Chameleon and they do know their guests tastes. We had the master suite which had a little patio courtyard. The walls had a subdued leaf mural and was tasteful. It had an eclectic art lodge... more

This is a lovely hotel with lovely staff. It is a small and family oriented hotel that makes you feel very much at home. I was a little nervous when I booked this hotel, but it was absolutely beautiful. Would recommend it without a doubt. more

Corteza Amarilla is a lovely, peaceful oasis in the San Jose area. It's a small hotel with large, comfortable rooms and huge showers with hot water. The sinks and counters are done with handmade glasswork, and the shower floors are made of a pumice-type material. Very nice touches. The restaurant is beautiful. There's indoor and outdoor dining, and I could... more
