Stayed at this traditional Japanese ryokan for one night during our 7 days' visit in Kyushu. We had a double room and a triple room for our group of 5. Located in the mountain and beside the river, this beautiful ryokan has a well maintained garden with lots of floral plants and a fish pond. Each room has its private... More

A boutique onsen with about a dozen rooms, many with private onsen. Service is private and personal. The public onsen looks out to a beautiful stream with soothIng sounds running water and birds. Very nice and private setting for our private open air onsen too. Love our stay very much.

Not the cheapest of places to stay, but I recommend everyone try this type of ryokan at least once in their lives. The ryokan was better than others I have stayed at. The staff were very helpful and informative. The food is a Japanese experience in itself and includes many courses, you should state in advance if you do not... More

Hozantei is hidden gem in Kurokawa. It's located a bit far from the village, but worth the visit. We went there in January, when the area was covered in snow, and just used their open-air bath facilities, during our day-trip to Kurokawa Onsen. When we arrived there by car, I spent around ten minutes just enjoying the beautiful view of... More

Not the biggest Ryokan I've stayed at in Kurokawa but still very beautiful and peaceful. The staff are super friendly. The meals were delicious and the overall atmosphere was breathtaking. Rooms were impeccable. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kurokawa.

Kurokawa is a great onsen: rural, quiet, traditional not too garish. Of the ryokan there, we really enjoyed staying at Hozantei. It's located some ways from the town, which gives it the feel of a small independent compound, built around a pond. Some of the baths and rooms are built along a little river- I saw a Tanuki bathing in... More

Hozantei is probably the most remote of the ryokans in Kurokawa, located some distance away from the town. But once you get there, the journey is really worth the effort. We rented a car from Nagasaki, and it took us about 3.5 hours to get to Hozantei. This is a small ryokan with 11 rooms, all with their own private... More
