I am a frequent traveller who hardly remembers the places I had been to or the hotels I had stayed, despite the fact that I plan my own itinerary. A year on, memories of my Xmas eve night stay seems to have been entrenched in my 2kb human CPU. Like one reviewer wrote, if you have not stayed elsewhere before... More

Stayed as a couple for two nights in two different rooms. So, let me start with my conclusion here: Takefue may be the best all-round onsen ryokan experience you can get in Japan. We are well reversed in the luxury ryokan collection and other onsen ryokans across Japan at price points that skyrocket above Takefue--all things considered, I dare say... More

This is the second time we stayed in this onsen ryokan. There are only 11 suites and each suite is unique. In fact, we chose the same suite "Bijyoan" as the first time. It was equipped with an unique outdoor onsen with a small cave. Inside, it even had our own foot bath. Everything about this ryokan was perfect from... More

My return visit to this dreamed Japanese traditional Ryokan since last Oct 2013. It was almost full even when I made my reservation half a year before my departure. So, this time there is no choice for me but "forced" to choose what is left--Tukikage. However, it was to my surprise, whatever room type you choose, you still enjoy the... More

A return visit and this time hit the peak of the fall foliage; stayed in the Bijoyan again -- but this time with yuzu! which elevated the experience to a new level. Service was impeccable, as before. But none of this is why we are entering a second review. As wonderful as is Takafue's physical site, they really need to... More

We had high expectation for Takefue as it was recommended by our good friend and it was the one and only destination for this trip. During our 2 nights there, Takefue never ceased to impress us and went much beyond our expectation in many ways. Staffs were polite, attentive and efficient. The place was well maintained to a high standard.... More

One of the best private onset experiences! Hard to beat… if you love privacy. Stunning setting and excellent service. All units have their own private outdoor as well as indoor spring baths. Set in the middle of the bamboo forest, each individual unit is planned as if you are the only unit around- total privacy. Other outdoor baths can be... More

What can I say, if your after a secluded well catered and intimate Ryokan in the Aso region of Japan, then you must look at this place. We travelled here in a group of 12, which must have been a bit overwhelming for the Takeufue team, but they managed with ease, service was flawless, food was impeccable and the onsen... More

this onsen was right on top of the mountain and even the GPS could not detect it. the entrance when we arrived in the evening was so romantic. upon entering there is a row of single granite steps that winds down the little ''valley'' to the small hut where the lobby is. this is in the midst of bamboo trees... We really enjoyed our stay at Takefue, which we booked through The Ryokan Collection. For comparison, we have stayed at Hiiragiya, Gora Kadan and Takinoya, and also at Hoshinoya in Arashiyama. Takefue is different because unlike the other ryokans mentioned above, accommodation isn't part of a larger complex but in individual villas of varying sizes. Wanting to retreat, we decided... More
