We arrived at Takefue after 2 days in a very traditional Ryokan 10 minutes away. We arrived at around 11.30am to drop of our luggage and ask if it would be at all possible to check in slightly earlier. Apparently their standard check in time is 4pm, but they could try and have the room ready for 3.30pm for us.... More

Takefue is really Hi class ryokan. As compare to other 5 stars ryokan such as Hoshinoya, this ryokan can beat them or at least in equivalent in some aspect. They provide us the experience that beyond expectation.( I don't want to tell you much because you won't be surprise) I stayed there for two nights in April. First night, I... More

Scrape together all your pennies and stay here for as long as you can afford! It's wonderful. It was a bit of a splurge for me for one night but absolutely worth it. The setting is tranquil and gorgeous. There is harmony between the manmade structures of the resort and the natural surroundings. We stayed in Shienan and can highly... More

I travelled a lot to Japan for every season and for any reason. I stayed at many famous onsen ryokans and this is the one I recommend most to my friends after I came back from my last trip in end-Jan. The most charming part of this hotel is its deep close harmony with nature which you can not copy... More

We've stayed at quite a few onsen ryokans over the last ten years, some I've loved the history, the beauty of the building and surroundings, the tradition, but it has to be said...I struggle with a Japanese breakfast and some of the food, sometimes it's hard to communicate, sometimes you'd love a comfortable chair or a really nice coffee...or private... We were visiting Kurakawa onsen last month, initially planning to stay 2 nights at Yamamizuki, unfortunately they were fully booked. Looking for alternative in T/A forum, we decided to go for the NO 1 rank, TAKEFUE, and considered our-selves lucky to get one night, as they were also fully booked. TAKEFUE 竹ふえ is an up market onsen . Stay Plan... More

Pfffff, at the foot of the hills Takefue stand, we thought we already arrived. But fortunately this was not the place we came for, that took another 300 meters uphill. That's where fire and staff was already waiting for us to embrace us with warmth, hospitality and luxury that would constantly accompany us during our 3 night stay at Takefue.... More

We stayed 2 nights at this fantastic hotel to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, though it is really expensive for me, but it worth every penny ! In fact, after my first night at the hotel. I am really planning my next visit ! Surely a must if you really look for Japanese style traditional onsen. Relaxing, excellent food, quiet... More

Okay, start saving your dimes, quarters and stray $100 bills and book a room at Takefue. In our experience no-one does indulgent luxury like top-flight Japanese ryokans. Takefue is one of those life-time bucket list experiences. Spectacularly set on a hillside in a bamboo forest, the 10-12 rooms are all unique and have private spaces within the resort. We stayed...
