Ryokan Wakaba in Kurokawa Onsen is lovely. The staff is amazing, the food and place are very typical Japanese and their hot spring is very nice. It was my partner´s birthday on the day of our arrival to Ryokan Wakaba and they organized (upon request) sparkling wine and beautifully arranged fruits in the room and they even sang to him... More

This was the best place I stayed on my four week trip to Japan. The room was spacious, the service really friendly, helpful and welcoming, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious! I'm hoping to be able to come back some day. The Onsen in the Ryokan is wonderful and of course there is access to all the other Onsen... More

Loved the Ryokan Wakaba. Best stay of all the lovely ryokan that we had booked in our 5 weeks of exploring Japan. We had rented a car at the Fukuoka airport, put the phone number into the GPS and it took us to within a few moments of the Wakaba. Stayed there 3 nights. Kurakowa Onsen is a beautiful gathering... This was my favorite Ryokan we stayed at in Japan. The staff was very helpful and showed us everything in detail. The Onsen is nice and the setting in the beautiful Kurokawa Onsen is just perfect. There are also private baths available but the public one is already more than enough. The dinner was amazing with a traditional menu. Everything... More

After taking a long Shinkansen ride (6hrs) from Shinagawa to Hakata station then catch a 3 hrs bus ride from Hakata Bus Terminal to Kurokawa onsen bus station. We were surprised by 2 welcoming staff from Wakaba waiting for us at the Kurokawa Onsen bus station to bring us (5 of us) and our luggage in their mini-van to Wakaba... More

Wow. What a beautiful, peaceful place Kurokawa Onsen is! It was such a great conclusion to our 2 week Japan stay. Relaxing, peaceful, refreshing and accomodating. Our stay at Ryokan Wakaba was an absolute delight. We decided to go all out and book the room that had a private onsen and it was superb. A living room, porch area, 2... More

Kurokawa is a very unique place and I liked it so much. This place is probably the highlight of the whole Kyushu trip. The ryokan is slightly at the outer ring of the village but it is definitely 'inside' the village. (Don't wrongly book those hotel outside the village) When u drive there, be brave and keep driving after you... More

Spent a night at the Wakaba Ryokan and loved the sound of falling water outside our window from the stream flowing by. Had a wonderful night's sleep in the cool fall air. The facilities are just okay, really.....like most of the ryokans in Kurokawa, the building is older, and of course very traditional. Our room was in the "annex", which... More

While traveling with my family to small villages around Oita, we stayed this wonderful place. Ryokan Wakaba was an amazing stay, and I would recommend it to everyone looking for a great japanese-style hotel. The hotel staff welcome us with tea and promptly show us our room. The room was beautiful and spacious; two toilets, a bedroom, a living room,... More

We recently had a 3 week tour of Japan in which 2 weeks were in Kyushu. Possibly the highlight of the trip was Kurokawa Onsen, a charming village, made even more delightful by our 3 night stay at Ryokan Wakaba. The owner and host Kaoru was utterly charming – generous, friendly, making us feel cared for and at home. Other... More
