We chose to end our trip with a splurge, staying in a traditional Ryokan. They knew we were Canadians and doubled our futons without being asked when they made up the beds. The staff spoke VERY little English, but with our VERY little Japanese and pointing, we made ourselves understood. The dinner and breakfast were both excellent, although it would... More

Stay at "山しのぶ" the other day, and thank you very much truly. You also cross much to the foreigner, but we aren't good at English. So it may be felt inconveniently. An effort is being made in order to understand even a little but I'm sorry and think. English is future's problem. How was the taste of the first raw... More

It's a tiring journey in driving from Kumamoto to this ryokan. Soon we forgot all the tireness with the warm welcome and being guided to the Japanese type accommodation. We could chose the colour of kimono and dressed up at the dinner. Amazing food presented in 13-course banquet dinner made us the night fully enjoyable. Apart from the onsen bath,... More

Thank you indeed for staying in '山しのぶ' for the other day. The dish is a dinner dish that uses a lot of vegetables in local. I was relieved because it liked it. Facilities in this pavilion have a hearth and an astronomical pavilion. It is both spots that the customer can enjoy. Thank you really for satisfying it with this... More

We love this place for its tranquillity and their great hospitality. We enjoyed the onsen because it was relaxing and not overly crowded. Being a traditional ryokan, the room did not have heavy curtains and we were awoken by the Sun as early as 5am. But the tatami was nice and warm so we managed to sleep in longer. At... More

Mr. Meshedpotato Thank you very much for staying at "山しのぶ" the other day. You seem to have enjoyed a hot spring, right? It seems that you could relax and we're happy, too. Your room is a Japanese-style room, so a floor is tatami. It would be different from usual, but you rested leisurely. There are no curtains, but it's interrupted... More

My wife and I stayed here for 1 night. The price was a little steep when we booked it. But after staying, we found it more than value for its money. For the price was paid for the room, it was actually cheaper than a dinner at a fine dining Japanese restaurant in HK. But the food quality here is... More

Spent a night here. The floorboards were heated. Several shared hot springs available for private use (half an hour each time) and optional private hot spring in your accommodation. They can pick you up from a particular bus stop to take you to the hotel. The service is the best I've yet had so far at hotels. The dinner was... More

This accomodation was unbelievable, owners picked us up from the bus stop - welcoming us to their property. Service was exemplary could not fault it. Our accommodation consisted of lounge/bedroom, dressing room bathroom and an indoor and outdoor onsen. We loved it - they also drove us to the little township nearby. The food was in abundance we could not... More

Fairly speaking, this site deserves a four to five star rating. - Staff service dedicated and helpful - take us on a 10 min drive to another Onsen and drove us back. - Lovely onsen but not spectacular view like Yamamizuki or Hozantei. - Great sleeping quality, as its mattress is thick and provides adequate softness The one star that... come to this hall the other day -- thank you very much. There is nothing with this showy circumference and it is a simple and quiet hot-spring hotel. This hall is also a natureful of a hotel. We found this ryokan for our family holiday with my brother-in-low's family from Hong Kong, who wanted to try Japanese onsen but weren't keen on communal bathing. We stayed in a semi-detached Japanese-style twin chalets. Each chalet (with two tatami rooms plus kitchenette) had two private onsen baths, one indoor and another outdoor. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and... More

We stayed two nights at Yamashinobu Ryokan. It was the last leg of our hotspring ryokan tour and my personal favorite. This ryokan is not located in Kurokawa itself but I had had a very hard time getting available rooms in Kurokawa itself even though I booked more than a month before...I guess it was peak season. We drove to... More

This Spa is a bit away from the centre of Kurokawa, but Spa staff will arrange the transportation from the centre of the town. They have 2 Onsen for each male/female and 3 different 'private' onsen, and no need to book these private baths in advance. If the sign says 'it is free', you can use them. Dinner and Breakfast...
