At Benesse House, the best place for viewing sunset is at the place where the "Shipyard Works" and the "Three Squares Vertical Diagonal" are. At the time we were there in end September, sunset was around 5pm. There is a path uphill to the Museum from here but bring bug repellent if you want to walk up to the Museum... More

Benesse House is the place to stay for visiting the Naoshima Art Site and is divided into four distinct wings: Park (attached to the main entrance), Beach (close by and on the waterfront), Museum (rooms within the Benesse House Museum, not to be confused with the Chichu Museum or others), and Oval (accessed via funicular from close to the Museum).... The benesse hotel is a simple and very functional hotel with all the amenities required. We stayed in the benesse park hotel on the second floor and had a great view from our balcony on to the park, sculptures and sea. I would advise staying in the park or the beach as These are the most conveniently located rooms in... More

I read somewhere the 7 hour trip from Tokyo was a strategic move to weed out the less passionate tourists - and something that paid dividends throughout our stay. No crowds. No photography (unless you're really stealth). Amazing food – admittedly it's not cheap but Naoshima is not really on brief for a bargain holiday. We stayed in Museum for... More

Some friends recommended that we visited Naoshima art island in Japan during our trip. It took us a while to decide in favour of travelling roughly seven hours from Tokyo to see some cool museusm in a small island. But we're glad that we did. This was easily the highlight of our 12 day trip to Japan and Korea. You... More

If your heart is in conceptual art then this place is for you. Built by famous architect Endo (the Japanese Mario Botta) you are in a hotel built out of wood and concrete where mostly concrete is being seen in common areas. So if you like grey concrete building with a minimalistic approach to common areas rush there. Unfortunately we... More

It was an emotion staying at Benesse House. It is much more than an hotel; you are enbedded in a modern architecture where everything reflects the concept of art. The landascape and art installations make it unique.

The room is beautiful with lovely views over the sea. We stayed in the museum which was magical as you can wander around the artwork very much alone. We arrived on a sunday night and missed that everything was closed on mondays! The staff doesn't speak much english and at times it was difficult to get any help. Breakfast isn't... More

A trip to Naoshima is a voyage into Art (capital A) (I will not even try to describe, every person will no doubt have a very unique experience). Stayed at both the Museum and the Park, both are fabulous.

Unique experience, sleeping in a museum in a nice room, it s a privilege We chose Oval rooms and we loved it since the view was nice, the Oval itself is magic and room was big and silent Japanese restaurant is delicious with an incredible service, French one was good but did not feel the staff so comfortable; breakfast is...
