Benesse House is the hotel-restaurant-museum complex on Naoshima Island. If you want to really experience Naoshima, you really have to stay at Benesse House. There rooms are in three different buildings - "Park" in the main building set back from the water seems like nothing special. Oval Rooms are located atop a hill in the building with a museum and... My wife and me with one kid 8 years old stay at Park Suit room for one night.( the other two not allow kids stay) we use email book the hotel. And book the Japanese dinner at 18:00 ( I suggest 20:00 will better, too much need see), morning breakfast. Expensive is true, but worth it. I think at least... More

We really were looking forward to a mix of architecture, art, nature supported by Japanese high service levels and friendliness. Yes the architecture was impressive but in cold contrast to the environment, which in itself was interesting. The art was rather pretentious, overrated in our view and that was refelcted in the stevice levels of the hotel which were poor... More

We have recently travelled to Japan for 2 weeks and Naoshima and Benesse House were supposed to be the highlights of our trip but what a letdown! Don't get me wrong, getting to stay in a Tadao Ando designed hotel was great for an architecture freak like me but that's pretty much where it ends. The Park rooms where we... More

We stayed in some very nice hotels in Japan, but this one was the best. Keeping consistent with the "Isle of Art" that is Naoshima, the design, layout, furniture and maintenance were all first class. Sorry to sound too Western elitist, but, King sized bed! The restaurants were superb, and our room had signed prints by well-known artists. Their in-house... More

We've travelled around in Japan with two kids. Naoshima is one of the best places we've seen, but this hotel wasn't. We stayed in Park (Beach was sold out) because children are not allowed in two of the other buildings, also not in the Museum restaurant! Not really hospitable..... The roomprice was ridicilous, around 300 euro for a small room... More

Many other reviews are on point: visit Naoshima if you can, spend more than one night, book meals early or eat off campus, dining is expensive on campus. I stayed in Park and enjoyed the room and view of the inland sea. Clean room with toiletries and pajamas provided. The lounge on the lowest level has a small library and... More

A must visit when in Japan. Would come back in a minute to visit this unusual art island. Not hard to get to using planes, trains and ferry. We flew from the local airport near Tokyo and left on the train to Kyoto. Spent two nights and would like to visit all 3 art islands.

We stayed in one of the 8 beach rooms and really loved the room: very spacious with a large comfortable bed, a living room area, the balcony overlooking the sea and even a small kitchen, all very new. Other great things in the room were a lovely box of sweets offered by the hotel, a real espresso coffee machine and... More
