The hotel has been around a while now, but I think on balance the understated interior is holding up well. It's nice to stay in the Museum and have access without having to share with the public. The staff were very helpful and the shuttle was good to get around in, but it can fill up quite quickly. However, having... More

The hotel is fully integrated with the museum, making the experience unique. The views from the rooms are gorgeous of the coast, sea and off-shore islands. The rooms are a bit spartan for the price but comfortable and clean. The totall experience though of Naoshima island cannot be stressed enough. The food in the Benesse House is at the Issen... More

Fantastic museums! Wonderful accommodation! Amazing food! This was a relaxing and quiet environment with great access to Benesse House courtesy bus. We really enjoyed our experience at Benesse House. Naoshima Island has some amazing art museums. This is the one of the highlights of our trip to Japan and also a 'must see' when visiting Japan. Kaye, Ken, Oliver, Blair... More

This place is heaven on hearth! I was really longing to travel to this archipel of islands Mr Fukutake, a fortuned man working in publishing, decided to celebrate contemporary art supporting artist and the well known Tadao Ando to design and build up this incredible place. I was staying at the Benesse Museum Hotel just 12 rooms, for a very... More

It was such a cool experience to stay in such a unique and special environment, both the built and natural environment. We arrived in the morning via ferry from Uno Port, there is a Benesse shuttle stop at the terminal which will take you to your building. We stayed at Oval which shares a reception with Benesse House Museum. I... More

The Naoshima art site is an incredible concept, and it is masterfully executed. It's a mix of art and architecture - in a beautiful setting - that is unique in this world. Particularly the Chichu Museum and Teshima Art Musuem are not to be missed. Part of the art site are 4 hotels called Benesse House: Park, Beach, Museum and... More

If you are travelling to Naoshima (and I would highly recommend including the island on your Japanese itinerary) try to stretch your travel funds to cover at least one night at Benesse House - it will enhance your experience of the amazing art and architecture. From the moment of arrival we were uplifted and inspired by both the natural and... More

This was definitely our splurge hotel but we really felt it was worth it. To be able to walk around the museum until 10 pm - in your slippers if we wanted - just because we were staying there was such a privilege. From the pick up at the port we were made to feel like honored guests. There were... More

What a fabulous overall experience! A big draw for my visit to Japan was to stay at Benesse on Naoshima. I loved the idea of leisurely appreciating the art after public closure at night. That was fabulous. I had conjured images from somewhere that guests literally walked in their pajamas, drinking champagne, looking at Pollock, Sam Francis and others' art.... More

The art, architecture, views & Oval room are all excellent as described by many viewers. This was our 2nd time to the island & we noticed a deterioration in customer service, cleanliness and landscaping. Most disappointing was the arrogant attitude of many of the staff which was not apparent in our previous visit. Perhaps it was timing of visit, just... More
