This was my first trip to Japan, and it was for our honeymoon, my wife is an architect and I'm and arechitecture enthusiest. first of all - very importand - there's a special James Torrel exhibit in the evening at the Chichu museum, it is said to be spectacular (we missed it), in order to see it, you must book... One of the most extraordinary travel experiences. Staying at Benesse House is not cheap, but I highly recommend it for a memorable special holiday. If you love art, architecture, nature... it is a must-do. The hotel was built by Tadao Ando, renowned concrete architect. Concrete never looked so beautiful as it does here - the architecture is a triumph. (The... More

Chill out and take in the atmosphere. This is my main recommendation. Yes, the room in the Park section, was not huge. Yes, the food was not brilliant. Yes, some of the Art went straight over my head. Yes, getting there is not easy. Yes, it is fairly expensive. But yes, it is a wonderful place and should be on... More

This place in just amazing. Where in the world can you spend a night in the museum? Naoshima Island. We wondered alone through the art exhibitions which are open exclusively to guests until 10pm at night. Our room was in 'the Oval', an architectural masterpiece designed by Tadao Ando ( a name you become familiar with staying on the art... More

Is Naoshima and the Benesse House art complex worth the detour when it takes 4.5 hours travel from Kyoto and about the same from Osaka. My answer is yes it is worth it. If you have a love for art, great architecture and nature which all seem to bleed seamlessly together here, you will love it too. High Points: --All... More

If you love art, architecture and traveling this place is a must go! We spent 2 days /nights there and i would have stayed an extra one. The art collection is incredible as well as the museum itself which was built by the genius Tadao Ando. The trip from Tokyo is a little annoying - around 4 hours and you... More

This is one of the most amazing hotel experiences you can try in Japan and it will be a highlight on anyone's Japan trip as it was on ours. There is much to be said about the Benesse House hotel, but to keep it fairly short then it's a fantastic combination of a hotel and museum that you can explore... More

Imagine you have all the money in the world and love art. Why not transform an island in the Inland Sea of Japan into an art installation? That's what Soichiro Fukutake did on Naoshima Island. The Benesse House encompasses the Park house with sleek, ocean view guest rooms, the Terrace restaurant, a spa and art gallery. Up the road is... More

Stayed three days here. I heard that some Americans on a cruise travelled seven hours by shinkansen and local trains for a one day trip to art-island Naoshima. Insane? Not al all. This hotel and island alone justifies your visit to Japan. It is one of the few places in the world where the small museum & hotelbuildings (concrete-architect Tadao... More

Benesse Park is a unique and marvelous place to stay. The architecture and art are phenomenal and the food is excellent. Although the rooms are exquisitely designed, I was struck by how easily one can hear other guests, and the balconies are also not private as only a low partition separates the adjacent rooms' spaces. There weren't many noisy people... More
