The opportunities worldwide are few and far between to stay in renowned architecture amongst amazing art and then still have the opportunity to visit another 2 world class art museums on the one island or take a ferry another (Teshima island) but here on Naoshima Island its all possible (note in Australia the MONA in Hobart, Tasmania is where you... We enjoyed many aspects of Naoshima and Teshima however the Benesse House hotel, although beautiful, had some irritating aspects. We stayed in the Park section of the hotel. The shuttle bus service was less frequent than one would have liked and the drivers often only indicated the stop in Japanese, the Tokyo subway was easier! The restaurants in the hotel... More

Naoshima and Benesse House are amazing. The island is beautiful, dominated by a local fishing industry but with this incredible museum and hotel right there too. This is a very expensive indulgence, but it's beautiful. The perks include seeing the art at night and just enjoying the surroundings. I loved it and would love to go back, but it's one... More

We had heard about the "art island" and were very intrigued. So when planning our trip to Japan we made sure we included the Benesse House. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the art on the property is worth the visit. They do need to add a casual place to eat in the evening.

Stayed at the Benesse House for a night during our trip to Naoshima, honestly speaking left with very mixed feelings. I am not going to speak about the gorgeous island, the innovative project the group put together creating a perfect harmony between Art and Nature, really the place itself is something you need to see once and if you do,... We'd been told a lot about this unique museum/gallery hotel on an "art island". All reports had been glowing, so we steeled ourselves to be disappointed. Just in case. However, we were not the least bit disappointed. Benesse House is GORGEOUS. Worth every yen, every difficult and inconvenient moment to get there - shinkasen, 2 local trains, a long wait... More

Staying in the Benesse house museum is a massive treat, mostly enjoyed by sophisticated French tourists. The museum rooms on the 3rd floor have a spectacular view of the calm pale blue sea, the lush green hills and a peek of sand. Mist adds to the magic. The rooms are plain, anything else would distract from the heavenly view. Being... More

This was a fantastic place to stay. We stayed in Park, with a view of the sea and NIkki de St. Phalle sculptures. Rooms were very comfortable and a great place to chill out. Staff were incredibly helpful. We got a boxed meal in the room one night. We expected only a tray of food, but got a table and... More

I was skeptical of art in Naoshima given my experiences in Tokyo where collections of western art were comprised of minor works. So the experience of visiting Benesse House and the Chichu Museum was an unexpected joy. The work at Benesse House is focused on the late 90's and minimalism although there are extraordinary pieces by Bartlett (look for the... More

Naoshima ist just great. I love the place! Not just the museums, the village, everything. We stayed at the Oval. Great view, the first time for me, that I took a monorail to my room. Also good service and great to have the museum for your self in the night. I just think that the price is a bit too... More
