I've now stayed here three times - most recently with 8 friends travelling from Australia. First, I love the coast in this region and found a great 3-4hr loop to walk along the coast and then through camellia and azalea forest. My parents and husband and I stayed one night at Arafune Resort on our way from Yunomine Onsen to Tanabe via the coast road. A converted town hall doesn't sound like much of a hotel, but this is a beauty! With rooms looking over a sandy beach, small harbour and fabulous rocky coast that is crawling with crayfish. Good: Supremely quiet. Some of the freshest seafood I have ever had: e.g live ear-abalone served on a small clay stove at the table. The ryokan style room was small, but of fair quality.
