We stayed here at the end of a Kumano Kodo walk at the end of 2013... the room was small and gloomy and was a terrible disappointment after experiencing the delights of Japanese Minshuku and Ryokan during our walk Adequate, but to be avoided if you want to enjoy your stay

Staying here removes a lot of the trepidation that non-Japanese-speaking Western tourists like us have about venturing into the deep rural areas. It’s brilliantly situated 150m from the Kiikatsuura train and bus station, absolutely easy to find down the main street to the harbour. The hostess is the ultimate in quaint granny charm and all gaps in verbal communication are... More

I stayed 2 nights in this charming little family run hotel in the very quiet fishing town of Nachikatsurra. It is good base for visiting the three grand Kumano shrines and other attractions in the area as I will highlight below. The hotel is just 3 mins walk away from the train station. You are welcomed with a sweet dessert... More

We enjoyed our stay here. It was the only place on the Kumano Kodo where we decided not to have dinner included (I'm not even sure if it is an option) and therefore was one of the most reasonable. We wanted to be close to the station and close to some restaurants to eat tuna. This hotel met the mark.... More

The hotel owner and staff were so wonderful to my new husband and I as we stayed for 1 night during our honeymoon after hiking the Kumano Kodo trail. They recommended a great sunset onsen location and places to grab dinner. They even helped us celebrate our honeymoon as well as prepared a very extensive and delicious to-go breakfast since... The hotel is about 3 minutes walk from the station and is in a very quiet town. We came to see the Kumano shrines in the area. I booked directly through the Kumano Travel Service which gave a better deal than better known sites and a 3 bed room when they said there wasn't one available. The room was quiet... More

Run down, smells of smoke, beds soft. Cheap and ok for a night or 2. Walk to station and seaside where there are cliffs nice. Manager of hotel very kind and booked whaling trip for us, showed us where to go on map. Dinner lots of tuna everywhere. Hard for our 9 yo but our 16 yo liked it. Bus... More

We stayed a night after walking Kumano Kodo, a grueling last day with packs from Koguchi. Charmant is about 100 metres from the bus and train station. Quiet. The whole town is so quiet. Is this what they mean by the younger generation deserting rural areas? Lovely welcome; another toast or coffee at breakfast offered free. Room pretty much exactly... More

What sets Hotel Charmant apart is definitely the quality of the staff; even though only basic English is spoken, the staff always made sure by written notes that we were fine & had all we needed. Breakfast was great, not Japanese but still plentiful & varied, with good coffee. The room was very comfortable & spotless, however a bit gloomy... More

close to station, nice breakfast served at the table, simple but accurate room, very kind owner, many restaurants on walkingdistance, no elevator available, no bar or restaurant in the hotel, no view from the room.
