I've been to several dozen onsen from Arima, to Kinosaki, to Hakone, etc. I loved this one. Cost a little prohibitive but what a place HUGE! Wasn't very busy from 8pm-10pm. Take the free boat over. It takes five minutes to get there. The front desk gives you a souvenir washing towel, bring your own drying yourself off towel. 1000... More

We arrived at the information office ok. The chap that was supposed to be at the office was absent. I managed to communicate with a local satsuma farmer using hand signs and grunts. He gestured that the rep had gone for lunch. Our issue was not how to catch the ferry but what to do with our hire car. The... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The whole island is just one hotel, but don't expect a luxurious five-star experience. It is a good thing though because it really feels very authentic and real. All you see are working-class Japanese customers, very few foreigners. We loved the decor in public areas because they can be quite last century and... More

A stay at Nakanoshima is more than a stay in a hotel; it was a source of relaxation and renewal. A stay at a ryokan, after all, is like living in one's own house, where you lounge around in a yakuta robe and sandals. Of course, your own home does not have the pleasantly warm mildly-sulpheric hot spring baths in... More

We stayed here after completing the Kumano Kodo and appreciated the indoor/outdoor private onsen. We had a corner room that provided terrific views over the mountains we had been walking through. We made use of the washing machine and dryer after travelling for over a week. The buffet breakfast was great and we enjoyed a walk to the lookout point.... More

Good base for nachisan with frequent ferries, excellent accommodation, and a good onsen. Easily accessible though we were stopped by initially suspicious police keenly interested in what two westerners were doing in town (related to the cove?). Good, cheap food options in town. Dinner price seemed a bit much by comparison.

We have spent 3 nights in the hotel in HB. There is an excellent Onsen with a stunning view. From katsura there is a frequent bus that brings to Nachi where you can visit several temples or you can visit the tuna market early in the morning. We have been gently upgraded as extremely gently was all the personnel. Only... More

Chose this over Hotel Urashima as the onsen outdoor bath looks more impressive than the multiple baths (one in a cave) at Urashima. And it looks so terrific to have a island all to yourself or to the hotel, but unfortunately due to rain, i didn't get a chance to jog and explore the island outdoors. Great dinner and i... More

Spent one night here after Hotel Urashima.- quiet compared with Hotel Urashima. Nice friendly staff. Onsens were good - both indoor and outdoor. Japanese dinner was OK - a bit too much fish for my liking! Buffet breakfast - good selection. Overall, good experience.

Visit Wakayama Prefecture in early December with my wife and enroute spend a night in this hotel. A small boat (can carry around 30 persons) takes us to the hotel which is built by a small island. Parking is provided before we take the boat and the trip is just a two minutes ride. Staffs are friendly and check-in is... More
