We have been there the night of August the 13th, during the canfdle light festival. Great location for an amazing night. The temple was extremely clean, the room was really amazing and on top of that the onsen was awesome. The monks were helpful. A bit overpiced I would say compared with all the other accomodation we tried. A great... More

So when my husband told me we were going to stay at a buddhist monastery/temple, I thought the accommodations would be simple and modest. Little did I know that we were going to be in a newly renovated section of the temple with a beautiful private bath and a really large and comfortable room. Gorgeous view of the garden from... More

Going to Koyasan and overnighting in a Buddhist temple is an absolute must do for any serious traveller to Japan. We looked at a few places and settled on the Henjosonin mainly because they had availability for the one night we would be at Mt Koya. We booked through Japanese Guest Houses who made our reservation without charging us a... More

It was not easy to get to Koyasan from Sin Osaka Station but it tuned out to be really worthwhile. In our case, we changed the line from JR to Nankai Express at Shinmamiya Station. The station ticketing counter gave us a convenient round trip ticket including cable car and bus. It took abut 80 minutes to arrive at Gokurakubashi... More

A wonderful place to stay: clean, quiet, convenient, very close to major attractions; most monks do not speak English (the receptionist does). This hotel accepts credit cards. You also can order a taxi to visit distant temples and to reach the cable car station. It's not very easy to get there, so you need to plan your trip carefully. Anyway,... More

We stayed one night at Henjosonin during our visit to the stunningly beautiful Koyasan. The monks were very hospitable, and even though we knew minimal Japanese and they knew minimal English we were able to communicate pretty well. We felt right at home from the moment we arrived to leave our bags. They checked us in instead despite being early,... More
