As others have said, to fully experience the alpine route, it is necessary to stay a night in Murodo. I visited on a weekday in November, which meant a night for 2 was 35000 yen. Since the hotel was far from fully occupied when I was there, I was upgraded from the smallest tatami room to a 3 bed western... More

The hotel is expensive, cost around 1000usd 1 night when we were there. This is okay provided that you share with 4 persons and the hotel provided meals plus other side activities option. The scenery is great and provided that it is located on the murodo top, the hotel worth the money it charge. The room is old style, but clean.... More

A great location to experience the snow wall at its best -as by waking up there - you can be on the Snow Wall Corridor Walk at 9.30am when it "opens" for pedestrians. So you're ahead of the crowds. Spectacular sights as the sun rises/sets over the mountains, well worth seeing! Has basic hotel facilities, old style but still comfortable,... More

Hotel Tateyama is the only hotel at the highest point of the Alpine Route and leaves a dent in your pocket too. However, to fully experience the Alpine route, it make sense to stop here for the night, to rest after a day of traversing the route. And you can experience each station fully instead of rushing from point to... More

Breathtaking setting, I visited in October when the autumn colours are at there best. Staggering. The hotel is an ugly builiding The rooms however are clean and fairly spacious except that is the bathroom which is tiny The shared public bath is Ok, the lever that needs pressing every few seconds to keep the shower running is annoying. Dinner in... More

The property is a bit dated. Rooms are kept in a 80s Japanese hotel style, still spacious. There is no bathroom inside the room so only communal bath is available. The restaurants are no frills type, though the dinner included in the room rate was not bad. Fantastic view of Tateyama when there's no fog/rain, and very convenient to walk... More

While Tateyama is a fantastic place to visit, the Hotel Tateyama was so what a disappointment. Considering the price(~US$165/person/night), the rooms were like 3* hotel standard, the meals were nothing comparable to any Japanese restaurants that we'd tried, probably due to the fact that it's the only hotel available at 2500m. During our visit, there were not much activities available... More
