Everything about this place is perfect. The rooms are large and clean. It is walking distance from most places in the town, including being a 1 minute walk from the beach and some very yummy restraunts. And to top it all off the owners are two very kind hearted people who are more then happy to help you out if... More

A friend turned us on to Flying Sumo. We were in Japan for a couple of weeks and wanted a beach/surf/outside the city experience. We were not disappointed. Onjuku is such a cool little town, though to be sure, it is a Japanese cool little town. Several high rises seem like they could ruin the vibe, but when you are... More

Cheap, clean, relaxing stay at a great guesthouse. The rooms are big enough for 4 people but we enjoyed the space with just two of us. The rooms have everything needed for a weekend stay (do bring a towel though). The location close to the beach is excellent but don't expect a view as there are lots of tall buildings... More

we were extremely pleased with this wonderful hotel/ pension plenty of room to move around after encountering very small rooms in Japan The hosts Kelly and Dell were great with plenty of information about the area. You can hire boards wetsuits and enjoy a meal here. The beach is 2 minute walk and there are plenty of cafes in the... More

For those who intend to have a beach experience in Japan, this place is a really good option. I spent 5 days there. Del and Kelly (owners) are lovely. The place is ideal for those who want to relax and enjoy the beach. Dvds for free, and good surfboards available for rental. Around the place are good restaurants and there... More

Located within walking distance from the sandy beach at Onjuku. The shop carries a wide range of boards available for rental. Food and drinks are also available at the shop. The rooms are clean, simple, and affordable. Thanks Kelly and Del for an excellent stay and the great recommendations for local restaurants. Hope to make a repeat visit soon. Jeroen

My friend and I happened upon this lovely cafe/bar/pension/surf shop last year and pretty much fell in love with it! Surf school with Del was so much fun and to my surprise both my friend and I were able to get plenty of rides on our first day surfing thanks to Del's help and well as his exciting motivational singing... When I arrived in Onjuku I only planned to stay for 2 nights at Flying Sumo. I ended up staying 5. It was great :) First of all: Before I had even told Del (one of the two owners) that I wanted to stay, he took me around in his car to show me the area and the different surf... More

Having lived in Tokyo a long time I didn't know such a great beach option was available so nearby. The beach is a fantastic and clean alternative to Kamakura. The Flying Sumo was perfect for our needs, clean, convenient, and affordable. Kelly was an amazing host that took great care of us too. An added bonus was the great selection... More
