We had a great stay at Maruken. Very convenient to Nagasaki gondola and ski hire. Nobuko and Mamoru bought the discount ski tickets for us while we were having breakfast the first day so it was all so easy for us. The place is super clean and the onsen very relaxing. May be a little too hot for people not... More

We had the most amazing time in Nozawa Onsen, made even better with our stay at Maruken Sanso, Nobuku and her family were very friendly and welcoming, as well as being very helpful with arranging lift passes and discounted ski hire. We stayed in one of the traditional Japanese rooms with on suite, which was very clean and comfortable. All... More

Nobuku and her family welcome their guest into her home. Everything is super clean. My room was traditional japanese with toilet and sink and it was perfect. The price and the location are really hard to beat. Great breakfast and also awesome Japanese dinner I had with them on the first night. 4 minutes to the Nagasaka Gondola and right... More

pros: -good price for a ski resort -hosts were really nice, eg. picked us up from terminal out of goodwill, v cheerful, made a nice farewell gift for us -clean rooms/toilet. -Nice onsen for showers and hot water soaking in after skiing! -homemade breakfast daily -discounts for skiing rental, owners help to buy discounted ski passes -about 5-10mins walk to... Maruken Sanso is a fantastic choice for a stay in Nozawa Onsen, or anywhere in Japan for that matter. The ryokan is incredibly well located, less than a minute walk to the main ski lifts, just a few minutes from town and not far from some public onsens. However, the onsen in the basement is incredibly relaxing and you will... More

Loved our 6 night stay here in February. Close to the Nagasaka Gondola and only a short walk from the main street of the Village. We found Maruken Sanso to be what we would consider to be a true Japanese experience and Nobuko made us feel right at home. It is all pretty basic but can not be faulted.

Maruken Sanso is about as close to the Nagasaka Gondola as you can get on a budget. The rooms were reasonably priced, but the real value was when we ate dinner in one night! We wished we had eaten in every other night of our stay, the food was delicious and we even got to try some home-made umeshu (plum... More

Maruken Sanso is pretty hard to write a summary about as its down sides were often also its strong points. It screams everything Japanese and has a distincively unique feel about it compared to your everyday accommodation that the rest of the western world offers. We travelled with a group of 12 and stayed here for 7 nights. I believe... More

This was our third visit to Nozawa, where finding family accommodation has always been tricky. For value for money, Maruken is our favourite option so far. Our combined Western/Japanese room was a great size for Japan, nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Heating was new, quiet and able to be controlled by us. The room included a decent sized toilet and... More

My husband and I stayed here for four nights. The room was very small but had its own basin and toilet. It was on the third floor: great for views over the village, but a long way down to breakfast, the ski room and the cute in house onsen. Make sure you don't leave anything behind in your room when...
