Ryokan Sakaya was the perfect base for a week of skiing in Nozawa in February this year. It has the best location in Nozawa onsen, in the historical heart and just minutes from the u-road that takes you to the ski runs. Great rooms, good rotenburo, very good Japanese style breakfast and top quality keiseki dinner. The staff were incredibly... More

Loved my time saying here. Very authentic Japanese style accommodation with some of the best food you are ever likely to eat....make sure you have the kaiseki dinner. The onsens are great and in particular enjoyed the private one after a days skiing. We had plans to go and explore the nightlife but never ended up venturing out due to... More

We took our first trip to Japan in Feb 2014 and first spent a few days in Tokyo before heading up to Nozawa-onsen for a few days on our snowboards. Ryokan Sakaya made this such an amazing experience. When you first walk in, you'll be greeted by the staff who will insist on taking your bags (including ski bags) and... More

If you are planning a trip to Nozawa Onsen, this is the place to stay! The staff there are so polite, friendly and helpful. They will go out of their way to assist you with anything. This is a great Ryokan and I highly recommend their Kaiseki, traditional multi course Japanese dinner! The onsen is another must do, if you... More

My husband and I have stayed here twice now. The breakfast and delicious, the rooms very clean and the staff are very helpful. It's in an excellent location close to the "Yu Road". It's also got the best onsen I have ever been in. It truly is an amazing place to stay.

From the moment we arrived, we felt super welcome. The ryokan had displayed the names of the parties arriving for the day, which was a nice touch as we knew that we were in the right place and that they were expecting us. Check-in was smooth and efficient and the ryokan provided us with brochures, maps etc without us asking... More

We have just had a five night stay at Ryokan Sakaya and were absolutely delighted with our stay. The staff are very helpful and courteous. They organised dinner bookings, transfers, and provided maps, directions etc Our rooms were called Japanese twin rooms which meant low beds and tatami mats. We have stayed in traditional ryokans before on futons but this... More

We spent 6 days in this wonderful ryokan. My communications with Sakaya started on e-mail well before the trip, and they were kind enough to provide me a quick and exhausting information as well as book us for Snow Monkey tour, which is the closest to reach from Nozawa (not from Hakuba). I think it's probably the biggest and the... More

The staff are very warm and friendly and extremely helpful. The traditional Japanese room we were in was comfortable and fun - a nice break from the norm. We enjoyed sleeping on the tatami floor and everything was very comfortable. The traditional Japanese dinner was fantastic and is highly recommended. The Japanese breakfast is very good but might not suit... More
