Loved our stay at this lodge. the family was friendly, warm and welcoming. The onsen was clean and well kept. Breakfasts were a family affair with all the family heads down in the kitchen ensuring it was prepared with a loving touch, carefully coordinated for small table dining amongst guests who spoke the same language! I was sick in bed... More

What a lovely lodge run by a lovely family. My partner and I arrived late in the evening cold and tired. Mika (not sure I spelt that correctly) welcomed us into her warm lodge and gave us a quick tour before settling us into our room and importantly showing us how to use the reverse cycle air conditioner. It's very... More

we had 6 nights at the lodge matsuya and from entering the building knew we had made the right choice. We had western rooms and although small were clean and fresh towels delivered daily. Breakfast was fresh and very well presented and set us up for our long days of skiing. The bathing room was very clean as was all... More

There are two types of rooms at Matsuya Lodge: Western-style and Japanese rooms. The Western rooms are tiny, with beds, very little room for luggage and a toilet in the room. Still good enough if you are just looking for a place to crash overnight after a full day of skiing. The Japanese rooms are much larger, with futons on... More

Booking last minute over the Fire Festival wasn't such a great idea, but we certainly did well booking a room at Lodge Matsuya! We opted for a Western Room (two single beds, and our own toilet) but no shower / bath. Instead we decided the hotel Onsen would suffice. (as well as all the other public Onsens Nozawa is famous... This lodge is family owned and it's very cleaned and cosy environment. We had the western twin room and there is a toilet in the room but the room size is way too small for luggage of skiers. When you sit in the toilet, you literally have problem closing the door. The bed is very comfortable and there is no... More

Our hosts Akashi and Mika made our stay...the dinner each evening was some of the best food and variety. Accommodation is typical ski lodge , which suited us as we were there to ski. Easy walk to gondola and ski hire up the hill and access to shops and coffee after the onsen also easy post ski. Feb 2014.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Lodge Matsuya in December 2012. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. We especially enjoy our traditional Japanese style room after a day on the slopes - it was so warm and inviting with the tatami mats and futons. We did have some snow showers while were there and it... More

We had a wonderful 2012 White Christmas at Lodge Matsuya. Takashi & Mika provided a very friendly and helpful service. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and well serviced. We stayed in Japanese style rooms and had great views. The Japanese baths were very pleasant – roomy and light (in other places they can be dark and dingy). Their... More
