Fantastic friendly service and great cultural experience. Be prepared to change your slippers often, wear you Japanese robes around the hotel and bath with others au natural (not mixed). You will be asked if you want your bed put away each day (we forgot one day and it is a bit of a pain going over it). Try the Japanese... More

Family of 3 for skiing. The host Hiro and all staff were absolutely top notch, with most speaking a little English which helps greatly, as none of us had any Japanese. Ski and gear storage extremely easy just inside entrance. Parking right at the front door, and staff constantly kept clear any snow from and in the vicinity of the... More

A fantastic friendly ryokan. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Most have good English. The inn is only 5 minutes from the ski slopes and directly opposite a hot spring where the villagers cook corn and eggs. We all had an onsen every day in the beautiful baths.

Wow what an experience, sure I've been to more luxurious hotels before but nothing that has the service and cultural aspect that Sumiyosiya has. We went for our honeymoon, we were treated with tea and a gift to celebrate us bring newly weds. The in house onsen is a god send after a long day on the snow and apparently... More

We stayed for 10 nights at this beautiful ryokan. Hiro was a perfect host and nothing was too much trouble for him and his team. The rooms were large and certainly big enough for a family of four. While the futons took a little getting used to, they were very comfortable. The in house onsen was perfect after a day's... More

When my wife booked a hotel room with no beds and no bathroom I was a little surprised. I needn't have worried, staying at Sumiyosiya was a truly fabulous experience. The service is second to none anywhere I have stayed in the world...Hiro and his team are outstanding and nothing is too much trouble, right down to pro-actively making a... More

I visited here twice. it's a great ryokan. I visited with my family. My mother don't like fish. They changed fish to others only my mother's dinner and breakfast. They are tasty. They can speak English well. Australin stayed there. They didn't have a problem about communication. They are very kind and peaceful. It's good place to go to onsens... More

This inn, where I have stayed two times so far, is enormously pleasant. The stuff are alway welcoming and ready to help us, only when we ask them. The ale made from Buck-weat (Soba Beer) was exellent full of aroma of Soba. The two different bath tub are not so large and cozy enough to get relaxed. I enjoyed hiking... More

I went skiing in Nozawa in January 2015 and stayed in Sumiyosiya. It is a small but cozy ryokan. The staff were extremely helpful and nice. Most of them do not really speak English, but it was good that one of them speaks fluent English so we could ask him about ski information as it is our first time to... More

We stayed at Sumiyosiya in early April for 5 nights and had a wonderful experience. Hiro answered all our questions and the staff were very helpful. This Ryokan has a hot spring inside the hotel. We used it everyday although if you have never been in a hot spring before, I would recommend running the cold water before you get... More
