Stayed for 3 nights combining sightseeing and a bit of skiing. Our visit wasn't planned so the staff were brilliant at organising ski instructors and picking us up off the bus. The private onsen in the hotel is lovely and often you will be the only person in there. Food in my view was up there with some of the... More

Having finished our third stay at this Ryokan in four years, I thought it time to give it a review, (although I hate the idea of it being swamped by tourists). Selfish I know, as we are tourists. This is an exceptional ryokan, it's elegant and upscale, but down to earth and gracious at the same time, which quite a... More

Admittedly this was our first ryokan experience, but our gracious hosts at Sumiyosiya did everything they could to make it a wonderful one. Standing out as the most memorable highlights include the friendly and helpful staff, the excellent food and the ryokan's own onsen (in particular the outdoor one). Sumiyosiya was a perfect base from which to explore this charming... More

I stayed at this traditional upscale Ryokan with a friend in Feb 2014 and it exceeded our expectations. The owners were lovely and unceasingly helpful, the degustation dinner was amazing as well as being great value, and the outdoor Onsen was a delight, especially when it was snowing. The Ryoken is positioned perfectly between the moving walk-way and the restaurants... More

My wife and I, who are from Sydney, stayed at this wonderful Ryoken for 7 nights in January 2014. We would highly recommend it. It is easy to get to from Sydney - we flew overnight to Narita, and were having lunch in Nozawa Onsen the next day, having been picked up from the bus stop by the hotel. The... More

We stayed as a family for 4 nights at this ryokan for a ski holiday. The ryokan is located very close to the moving footway or Yu-Road which is the quickest and easiest way to get to the snowfield. The interiors of the ryokan are traditionally Japanese, decorated with a great collection of Japanese ski art and ornaments. Bedding is... More

Stayed a couple of nights here when skiing in Nozawa Onsen. Sumiyoshiya is a classic and traditional Japanese ryokan. The building has a very authentic feeling and the inside is decorated and furnished very tastefully. The ryokan is located in a very picturesque part of Nozawa Onsen. It's just a short walk from the main street and close to Yu-Road,... More
