What a delightful time we have had in Nazawa Onsen. We are on a skiing holiday and Im travelling with 5 friends. All acommodation was booked in Australia and we are so impressed with this Ryokan. We have deluxe Japanese rooms with tatmi floor and Futon beds. One of our party injured herself, did her ACL skiing in Sapporo, and... More

Absolutely awesome! Defiantly would stay again. The room was very large with comfy beds. The onsen was lovely warm and clean. Breakfast each morning was excellent a great feed before a jam packed day. We had dinner there twice both times leaving full and satisfied!! The host is amazing and nothing is too hard or big. Spoke excellent English. Organised... More

For my sons 21st birthday we decided to go skiing in Japan with a few friends in Feb 2015. From the time we arrived, Ko (the owner) went out of her way to make us feel at home. She organized everything for us (ski hire, lift passes, restaurants, massages and a shave at the local barber shop) as this was... More

We (me, my wife and two friends) stayed at Kiriya Ryoken for a week during February 2015. Nozawa Onsen is a great place (a lot of older style buildings, with heaps of really good restaurants, plus the skiing). What made it special was Kiriya Ryoken and our host Ko. The rooms are traditional Japanese with futon beds which are rolled... More

I could not recommend this hotel more. It is typically Japanese with traditional rooms (simple room however lovelily decorated). They make up your bed in the evening on the floor and rearrange it in the morning. It's an ideal location -only minutes from the ski lifts. The breakfast is great (western and Japanese choices) The kaiskei is fabulous also and... More

My husband and I stayed at Ryokan Kiriya for 4 nights earlier this month after spending a week at Hakuba ski resort. It was our first visit to Nozawa Onsen and certainly won't be our last. Ko san is an excellent host, nothing is too much trouble for her. She is friendly and informative and speaks good English. We stayed... More

We visited with a family of four including two teenage boys - and our first experience of a ryokan and onsen culture. First of all, Ko runs this inn with energy, commitment and cheerfulness that absolutely influences this review. She is the epitome of Japanese hospitality. During our visit the guests were largely westerners - Australians and Europeans in particular.... More

We loved our experience at Kiriya Ryokan in Nozawa Onsen! This is a cozy, family-friendly traditional inn set at the foot of the ski slopes (just a couple minutes walk to the Yu road moving walkway). Hostess Ko-san is warm, welcoming and very helpful both in advance and during our stay. We had a traditional family room and loved the... More

Kiriya is not the most famous ryokan in Nozawa onsen, but I'm sure they are definitely the best price performance in the area. We booked the hotel in last fall and planned to take a long distance bus from Tokyo to Komoro. Rent a car to tour around the mountains before check-in in the afternoon. There was a typhoon on... The location is terrific as close to the walkway to ski fields and near by to restaurants and the cooking onsen. I particularly enjoyed my first public onsen bath almost next door to Kiriya as well as the in-house onsen. The room was very spacious and would be ideal if you had several staying in one room as the bathroom... More
