Kiriya is not the most famous ryokan in Nozawa onsen, but I'm sure they are definitely the best price performance in the area. We booked the hotel in last fall and planned to take a long distance bus from Tokyo to Komoro. Rent a car to tour around the mountains before check-in in the afternoon. There was a typhoon on... The location is terrific as close to the walkway to ski fields and near by to restaurants and the cooking onsen. I particularly enjoyed my first public onsen bath almost next door to Kiriya as well as the in-house onsen. The room was very spacious and would be ideal if you had several staying in one room as the bathroom... More

Our first time in Nozawa Onsen was during the Christmas week in 2013. We stayed at Kiriya Ryokan. Hospitality of Ko-san, the hostess of Kiriya, was unmatchable and she seemed to know all the good restaurants in Nozawa Onsen. Her recommendation of izakaya, sushi bars and soba noodle houses could not be better. We cerebrated our Chistmas eve and Christrmas... More

Our first stay in Japan and my wife and I are so glad we chose Kiriya. The service by Ko and the staff was exceptional, always trying to please and improve our stay. We were unable to get to Nozawa on our first day due to adverse weather conditions and when we finally made it the village was so enchanting.... More

Non-guests can eat here, but bookings must be made a least a day in advance. This was recommended by our hotel for kaiseki. For 3000 Yen per head, it was excellent value. While the ingredients were not expensive, just about every item was tasty, interesting and perfectly prepared and presented. Service was simple. Almost all the food is laid out... More

After staying at the Kiriya Ryokan for 3 nights I will definitely return because we had such a fantastic time. Everything about our stay was perfect thanks to Ko and her husband. Ko was always there to look after us, answer any questions, offer helpful advice and have a friendly conversation. Our room was clean, tidy and well appointed and... More

What can I say that others haven't said already. This is homely, warm and inviting. Ko and her staff ensures that you are well looked after. We stayed for a week as a family of 4, in a Japanese style room, the tatami beds took a bit of getting used to especially after a full day skiing however, we had... More

Unlike most reviewers, we recently spent two nights at Nozawa in late autumn. A little early snow on the hills, but the season not yet opened so the village was very quiet. Few Western tourists around, but we shared Kiriya with some lovely Japanese couples and families enjoying an onsen break. This ryokan is lovely, the family owners very warm... More

this is our second time in Nozawa staying at Kiriya. The hospitality that Ko and her family has shown to us made this place stand out from the rest. We had 2 little kids, they really enjoyed the lobby area , reading books and playing with the cat. Amazing small ski town that is great to explore, great food at... More

I have to do this review in point form because I’ll run out of room because I have so much to rave about! - Five star hospitality - nothing was too much trouble, always around to help - Traditional style – beats luxury hotels hands down anyday. The décor is traditional Japanese, and even someone like me with a “seen... More
