We have just spent two weeks at Kyria, with family and friends to ski and celebrate my 60th birthday. We've been to Japan 4 times and this place wins hands down. It has an amazing communal and friendly atmosphere with the omnipresent Ko making sure everything is just right. Jack the Mclaren Vale ski legend was also on hand to... More

Kiriya Ryokan is a wonderful place to stay in Nozawa Onsen. Ko and her family (who run the ryokan) were very friendly, helpful and accommodating, with everything from selling us discounted ski lift tickets to recommending restaurants to letting us use their washing machines. The rooms (we had a western double & Japanese triple) were large and beautifully presented and... More

Our family of 5 was fortunate enough to stay at Kiriya Ryokan for 5 nights from 25th December 2015. We caught the Shinkansen to Iiyama station and then the Nozawa Onsen Liner bus from bus bay 4 to Nozawa Onsen (Cost 600 yen, pay as you get on the bus). The ryokan was easy to reach on foot from the... More

I have always been perusing tripadvisor whenever I plan for my trips, but had never bothered to contribute my reviews. After my stay at Kiriya Ryokan, this review is the only way I can show my gratitude for their kindness and hospitality. The service by Ko-san and her husband and team at Kiriya Ryokan was hands down one of the... More

If you are looking for a traditional experience in Japan you must come check out Kiriya ryokan. This place is great in all seasons! The rooms are huge and well facilitated and clean, the owner Ko is very sweet and speaks great English. She can assist you with everything even how you should spend the day. The ryokan is very... A group of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids at 2.5 yr and 4.5 yr) stayed for one night. The place is a budget ryokan which is run by a family. The lady at the reception is very helpful who also speaks good English. We hired a car and arrived around 7.30pm. So we didn't book the dinner within the... More

Having been to Japan several times on business this was our first time skiing. We were looking for good snow, an interesting range of slopes and an unspoilt japanese village. We got all this at Nozawa onsen. The icing on the cake was the Kiriya ryokan. This was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. We stayed... More

This was my third visit to the Kiriya, one of my favourite ryokan. Staying here is a very special treat. Ko Katagiri, the delightful fifth generation owner, is always very hospitable, hardworking and efficient. She and her lovely staff go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure guests thoroughly enjoy their stay. The Kiriya is a wonderful labyrinth... More

This village is fabulous for anyone interested in an onsen experience. The keiseki dinner was exceptional and Ko, an English speaking concierge receptionist, was delightful and an enormous aid. The room was immaculate and the service and staff were outstanding. As one strolls around this mountain village the sound of cascading water is everywhere, and the tranquility is quite a... More

Owned and run for 5 generations by the same family, Kiriya Ryokan is one of those places you'll remember when you're too old to travel. It’ll give you a warm memory that makes you smile and think “Yup, that was special”. It has that intangible something - a blend of warmth, professionalism, personality and...belonging. Well, for my husband and I,... More
