Owned and run for 5 generations by the same family, Kiriya Ryokan is one of those places you'll remember when you're too old to travel. It’ll give you a warm memory that makes you smile and think “Yup, that was special”. It has that intangible something - a blend of warmth, professionalism, personality and...belonging. Well, for my husband and I,... More

We absolutely loved our stay here. It is a very traditional ryokan that is family owned and run. If you have not experienced a ryokan before then this is a fabulous place to go. The staff were incredibly lovely and consistently went out of their way to help us organise our stay. We went at a very quiet time as... More

Coming to Japan as a family my husband wanted a ryokan/onsen experience and my boys wanted to go skiing - this provided the perfect combination. This family run ryokan is incredibly friendly and welcoming and Ko (the owner) is very helpful with all information needed for skiing. We ate in and had delicious food for all meals. Our rooms had... Fantastic place to stay and highlight of our trip. I can't ad much more to the other glowing reviews. Magic Transportation Update From March 15, 2015 the Horuriku Shinkansen service now continues on from Tokyo beyond Nagano. It now stops at Iiyama before heading on to Kanazawa. This means you can be at your Ryoken in around 2.5 hours from... More

2 minutes walk to snow walk way. Right near heaps of restaurants and main street in nozawaonsen. This is our second time staying here. Beautiful rooms in traditional japanese style. Ko and get family are a wonderful host and hotel has awesome breakfast and onsen. They also have dry room for snow gear and offer free use of laundry and... More

What a delightful time we have had in Nazawa Onsen. We are on a skiing holiday and Im travelling with 5 friends. All acommodation was booked in Australia and we are so impressed with this Ryokan. We have deluxe Japanese rooms with tatmi floor and Futon beds. One of our party injured herself, did her ACL skiing in Sapporo, and... More

Absolutely awesome! Defiantly would stay again. The room was very large with comfy beds. The onsen was lovely warm and clean. Breakfast each morning was excellent a great feed before a jam packed day. We had dinner there twice both times leaving full and satisfied!! The host is amazing and nothing is too hard or big. Spoke excellent English. Organised... More

For my sons 21st birthday we decided to go skiing in Japan with a few friends in Feb 2015. From the time we arrived, Ko (the owner) went out of her way to make us feel at home. She organized everything for us (ski hire, lift passes, restaurants, massages and a shave at the local barber shop) as this was... More

We (me, my wife and two friends) stayed at Kiriya Ryoken for a week during February 2015. Nozawa Onsen is a great place (a lot of older style buildings, with heaps of really good restaurants, plus the skiing). What made it special was Kiriya Ryoken and our host Ko. The rooms are traditional Japanese with futon beds which are rolled... More

I could not recommend this hotel more. It is typically Japanese with traditional rooms (simple room however lovelily decorated). They make up your bed in the evening on the floor and rearrange it in the morning. It's an ideal location -only minutes from the ski lifts. The breakfast is great (western and Japanese choices) The kaiskei is fabulous also and... More
