Located in picturesque Wadano, Gakuto Villas were pretty much perfect. The villas are modern, with excellent underfloor heating, and comfortably furnished. The small kitchen is basic, but adequate. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. My only criticism would be the lack of a dedicated drying room. There's plenty of dedicated storage space for skis etc in the foyer, but that... More

First time to ski and experience snow for our 3 kids, 12 & 10 year old boys and a 7 year old girl. They have fallen in love! Gakuto villa is conveniently located, next to shuttle route to ski lifts. Very spacious, cozy and homely modern design. Helpful staff and cul de sac was great for kids to play in... More

Everything you need on a ski break .. Highly recommended! The location and service are excellent and quite a picturesque setting. Close to the slopes and amenities and in the old Olympic Village. Also has a good pickup service to and from the bus stop.

Stayed there from 13-21 Dec 2014 with the family and found the place very cozy, new and clean. We took the 2 bedder unit and it can easily accommodate 4 people. Cooking facilities were basic but enough to cook simple meals at home. Home came with floor heating and a washer/dryer for laundry and had 2 toilet/baths. We also had... More

We are a family of five with 3 boys under 12. The Vila was large and spacious, with huge comfy beds, beautiful Scandinavian design and a large functional dining and kitchen. All areas had lovely underfloor heating which was essential in the -4 weather. We came to Hakuba from 13 December to 20th December- this was before the shuttle buses... More

We stayed at Gakuto Villas for 6 nights in February 2014. They are great for a family offering two bedrooms, plenty of space to spread out and lots of storage space for ski gear. The villas are clean, warm, attractive and comfortable, with a beautiful aspect - lots of light. Very well located in the heart of Hakuba. An easy... More

Nicely designed, sleek modern Japanese cottages. Really comfortable and excellently appointed. Wifi, Skype phones, heated floors, cool bathrooms, nicely equipped kitchen (for breakfast cooking, at least) and really nice Scandanavian/Japanese feel to the place. Hardwood floors, cathedral ceilings. Views are not so great (unless you like rusty tractors), but a nice setting in the woods with the noise of the... More

The two storey villa suited our family (2 adults and 2 boys) perfectly. Everything was new, clean and well-presented. The villas are located in the Wadano area, about a 5 minute drive from the Hakuba train station and a similar distance to the Happo area and ski gondola etc. Our host, Yokokawa-san, was amazing. He was always helpful, prompt and... More

From the booking procedure, recommendations and final experience, ours was delightful at Gakuto Villas. But honestly, Tori was the star with Henry not far behind in the rating. This couple really go beyond to help you in achieving the best experience possible. We recently traveled with our 3 young children, and it was the perfect start to our Japanese 3... More

Really nice villas - some of the reviews here have the issues highlighted - it's very modern so the stairs are a fall hazard for children (can be mitigated with baby gates they have), and the downstairs room is massive, but does get hot and has a small-ish bed. Not a game breaker though. The furnishings are really modern, there... More
