Although it would have been more appropriate to be in The Winter's Tale, we were happy with The Sonnets, a cosy double room with a two-seater sofa, a small dressing-table and a decent sized bathroom with lashings of hot water. The room also had a pleasant view out over the courtyard and the mountains beyond do that we could get... More

Overall, just an absolutely brilliant stay! I'll mention a few cons just so people are aware, but please don't think that they affected my stay, it was just wonderful. The staff were AWESOME and so kind, Echo land is so, so much fun, just brilliant. Cons... The disgusting stink of smoke... Could be easily improved by designating an outside smoking... More

We stayed in the Shakespeare hotel in Jan 2015. The rooms are basic (about on par with Australian hotel/motel standard accomodation. I didn't notice that the carpet was stained and the room certainly didn't sell like smoke (something I was worried about form other reviews). the bathroom was small but had a nice deep bath. Really this accomodation is very... More

Spent a week enjoying the snow. Beds were firmer than we are used to but hey we are in Japan. Thanks to the person who posted about the Japanese pillows having rice we bought our own or a piece of low foam as a topper pillow. (Same in Tokyo but you get two western and Japanese) Breakfast was ample and... More

Overall a great place to stay which is central to restaurants, bus stops & just walking distance from Happo. Rooms were cosy for 2 ppl. Friendly staff & you can rent all your snow gear there from Dave. Great helpful bloke even for suggestions on places to go. Only advice would be bring your own pillows.

My wife and I have just returned from a week on the snow at Hakuba where we stayed at the Shakespeare. Much has been written about the hard beds and stained carpets already. However our stay was made so much better by the location in Echoland, the convenient and free shuttle services to the slopes and especially by the wonderful... More

Only arrived tonight after having stayed at Hakuba Springs hotel. Will do a detailed review after our week stay. But have a scotch tonight and my son went to see about some ice. The guy at reception have him a cup and showed him where to get icicles from outside. Scotch with fresh icicles - very cool!!!!

Before booking, we had a good idea of what we were getting into from reading reviews. You do get what you pay for. The location and cost is what led us to book the Shakespeare Hotel, as we booked 2 days before arriving. Be aware that you will probably have to arrange your own transport from Hakuba station to the... More

We loved the location, loved the helpful staff, the amenities were everything you needed. It wasn't flashy, it was old, yes, BUT - you sleep & shower there, then the rest of the time you're on the mountain! Great location, access to the slopes is easy, goods bars & food easy to walk to. Enjoyed our stay immensely!

The hotel seems almost like Faulty towers OLD and very DATED. We were supposbly in a new section but I don't know what was new about it The carpet was old and dirty the single beds were so uncomfortable and the pillows contained rice. The towels were the size of a face washer and when you went down to the... More
