Stayed here for a week over Xmas. The rooms are small and rather dark, the toilets and showers are dated. The owner is a know-it-all with poor social skills. There really isn't any good quality backpacker accommodation in Hakuba, but this place is at the top of the heap. On the plus side, during my stay there were some good... More

Pleasant stay with our kids. Nick and Hiro were helpful and provided transport, tips and booked ski lessons etc. Like staying with friends in their home really. My two boys especially enjoyed staying here

I stayed at Hakuba Powder Lodge for 2 months in 2013 and to finally leave felt like I was leaving home. I arrived in the midst of the busiest part of the season and left at a time when guests were few on the ground and at all times the lodge was a thoroughly enjoyable place to be. The lodge... More

Going from Colorado to Japan to ski seemed extremely daunting as I had no friends who had completed this trip. I did some research on TetonGravity.com's forums and found Hakuba Powder Lodge as a resource to stay while in the central mountains in Hakuba. We arrived in Hakuba a day late, but was still able to get picked up at... More

Opposite of one persons review I liked a lot when stayed at this Lodge. Yes it's a lodge and don't wait 5-star hotel amenities and some times drying room is full of peoples stuff, but hey that's normal when the lodge is fully booked. I still always managed to dry my clothes and boots. Location is good, just couple of... More

The Powder Lodge is the nicest and most homely-feeling lodge I´ve ever stayed in. You are with other guests that come there to ski every day, so it´s quiet at night, owners and staff do everything possible to help you, tell you where to ski or go for dinner or just have a nice little chat (mainly about skiing of... Cosily & lovely. Great housekeepers. Always give your advice and help to find different information for their guests. Of course, if you look for some luxury hotel it's not a correct choice, but if you need to spent your vacation in the atmosphere of "big house for friends" - Powder Lodge is proper one.

Great lodge! Although it was the off season Hiro and Nick and the kids made me feel right at home as if I was a cousin visiting from Canada. Great dry room for storage and even gave me lifts to the gondola to ski with my gear as the local buses were no longer running, even to the train station... More

I stayed at Hakuba Powder Lodge for one month together with friends, and couldn't have been happier with any other accomodation! Everybody, both Nick, Hiro, the staff and the other guests, were so nice, helpful and caring. Very clean, lots of kitchen equipment, nice spaces to hang out in, with fireplaces etc. Close to ski bus, walking distance to food... More

To begin with the place should clearly advertise itself as a backpackers and not a lodge to accurately reflect what the establishment is. If this was the case then the issues listed below probably would not have been an issue. If a customer know what they are getting themselves in for then its their own problem if they do not... More
