This guest house is fantastic. We stayed for four nights over New Year in a private room, the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The rooms are very clean, spacious and quiet and there is plenty of communal space to relax after a day of skiing. The food was some of the best we had in Japan, beautifully prepared and... More

This place is so nice, it should not be called hostel... Owned and operated by Japanese woman and other Japanese staff. The breakfast and dinner they make are fantastic!!! I hope you are not one of those who insist on eating burgers because you don't want to eat the best cuisine in the world. They have onsen in the facility... More

I stayed two nights in a dormitory. The staff is very friendly. The hostel is clean. The food is good and the portions are huge! (for dinner and breakfast). The onsen is very small but really nice. There is small tower inside the hostel from which you have a nice view to Mt. Asahidake. Instant coffee and tea are for... More

The dorm rooms here are very comfortable. They have lockers, individual reading lights, powerpoints, curtains and bunk beds. There is plenty of room and I was lucky enough to stay in the dorm on the corner - perhaps they keep the noisy backpackers away from other guests? It just gave you a better view. You also get a mini fridge,... More

Solo summer traveller, I stayed 3 nights in a 4 bed dorm which worked perfectly. Well set-out, great onsen, lots of timber in the décor. Took the 2 meal option and really liked it. Lunches are available at the Ropeway station if you are around during the day. What a wonderful location for the big hikes and some medium hikes.... More

The fantastic lodge we stayed at being fully booked for that additional night we needed, we ended up here. It's nice I guess for the youth hostel, but compared to the lodge, it's impersonal and pricey. Japanese style room. Rotenburo. Bestregardsfromfar

We don't normally stay at youth hostels, but this one was lovely, and the only youth staying was our own 11 year old son. All the staff were friendly and speak some English. We had a private Japanese room for 3, which was comfortable and spacious. As this is a hostel there are no private facilities or air conditioning, so... More

The weather was rubbish but this YHA was lovely. We had a western twin room. Positives: 3 gorgeous, huge, varied dinners and breakfasts with a mix of western and Japanese food in the dishes ( it works!) Lovely small indoor and outdoor gender separated onsen. Great service. Negatives: Beds were hard (but fine) Pillows were worse (bring your travel pillow!)... More

We stayed here for 5 nights early July 2014 and it was great. Each day we took the ropeway and walked different paths .We climbed Asahidake from both sides. Be warned walking from the far side away from ropeway involves a steep climb up snow and then a near vertical scree slope to the summit. The food was excellent; we... More

We stayed in a private Japanese style room for 3 nights in this hostel. Good indoor onsen, cold outdoor onsen. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak more than enough English and Chinese to be able to converse in some pleasant conversation. The facilities are simple and clean and the atmosphere is of a lodge. Good large drying... More
