Shimizu is in a beautiful, peaceful location at the end of the village, a little difficult to find but away from the crowds and noise. The view from the entrance is beautiful, looking out over the fields towards the mountains. The inn was comfortable and homely, and the shared bathroom facilities were functional and clean. The highlight was the meals... More

We booked this accommodation through the Japanese Guesthouses website which was quick and easy. Although this traditional farmhouse is probably as far from the bus station as you could get, it was easy to find and very quiet. The room was small but cosy with more than enough heating. Make sure you book your room with breakfast and dinner as... More

Although it is a bit far away from the bus station, the house is tidy, and the atmosphere is relax! The host speaks English and is very helpful! There is only 1 shower facility, so it may take some time to wait if more occupancy are there too. The meals prepared by the host are very traditional Japanese Meal and... More

It was sub-zero temperature when we arrived at Shirakawa-go. But the sun was shining, which wasn't a good thing, because that turned the ground icy and lethally slippery. Shimizu Inn is a fair distance from where the bus dropped us - you have to cross the suspension bridge, turn left at the town centre and walk a couple of hundred... More

Booked via email with the inn owner. It is located about 10 mins walk away from the bus terminal. Have to walk across the suspension bridge to the village and the inn, Went there during the 2013 autumn (mid nov); always wanted to write the review earlier but didn't have time to do so. It was a lovely experience to... More

Nice traditional house just a bit off the town centre so it is quiet and serene yet you are only a 5-minute walk away. It snowed during our stay but there was a heater and electric mat to keep the room warm at night. The dining room was well-heated during both breakfast and dinner. Both meals were absolutely wonderful with... More

The host is the 8th generation, the house is historical heritage with very clean and comfort rooms, the atmosphere is warm and simple, the hostess and host are very nice and both can speak english. They introduced the history of the house and Shiragawa. Having meals around the hearth and talk with each other is really traditional and enjoyable. The... More

Great experience The hosts are great! Unlike previous reviews I read I did not find the hostess unwelcoming. She was just a bit more reserved. Still very friendly. Gave us some options on what to do until dinner. Dinner was incredible! The house itself is just really cool to sleep in. You can hear some of the frog and cricket... More

This is the closest it comes to be received at home as a Japanese family's guest. It does not offer the service of a Ryokan or a hotel. The rooms and the facilities are basic but appropriate to the setting in a traditional guest house. The lovely hosts are wonderfully welcoming and their meals (breakfast and dinner) are tasty and very... More

It is good that the inn is on the edge of the village, away from the day-trippers' traffic. Apart from that, the experience was average as the hospitality was a bit underwhelming. Price / quality was also not as good as what we have been experiencing in this part of Japan. This was disappointing, particularly given the rural setting and... More
