From the get go it was a great 3 days and a very good introduction to ryokan life style as we trip through the Japanese alps. Excellent room awash with facilities. A toilet straight out of a science fiction emperors throne room. Views through to the snow capped Alps. Food was exquisite and activities aplenty. Snow monkeys in performance mode,... More

Our stay at Ryokan Biyunoyado was like a fantasy. Great hospitality, service with smiles, and warm farewells. Accommodations are great and Onsen is top notch with indoor and out door. They had a Tyco and Lion Dance performance in the lobby which was an added bonus.

What this place stands out from other ryokans is the manager and staff who are friendly and have very good serviced mind. Many staff speak some English, while those who could not speak much showed a very kind hospitality. I was particularly impressed with the old lady who took care of the Onsen rooms which I enjoyed using several times... More

Our stay at Ryokan Biyunoyado was like a fantasy. We were greeted at the train station and driven the short drive to the hotel. As the Winter swirled around us, owners Yuki and Masao were the perfect hosts! We only needed to let go and enjoy our stay. Not only is the food something delicious at each meal, but the... More

Although our early arrival with the snow monkey express coming from Nagano was not expected by the hotel staff, we were warmly welcomed by the notified hotel manager who picked us up at the train station and brought us to the hotel. I had planned to try out the Japanese bathing, but did not on this visit. We were warmly greeted by the staff here. The etiquette and rituals of traditional Japanese inns and communal bathing can be a bit daunting for the first-time visitor to the country but the friendly approach here - collection from the station, gentle instruction about shoe and sandal rules and how to wear the yukata correctly were all welcomed by we newbies.
