This review has been a long time in coming, but the staff here literally saved my life before I had even checked in! Without going into too much detail, they had been instrumental in organising a mountain rescue for me when I found myself stuck in the back country (my own fault) and they went out of their way to... This is a wonderful authentic Japanese ryokan. We weren't sure of our arrival time, so when we arrived at the station a helpful tourist volunteer phoned the hotel for us, who paid for a taxi. We arrived at the wonderful lobby/bar, and then saw our Japanese room with tea and bean buns. We then took the shuttle bus to the... More

Stayed here after a few days in Tokyo, used the Japan 14-day rail pass to travel here. Stayed for 2 nights in September 2014 with my husband. As soon as we stepped off the train we were greeted and shown to our driver. The Ryokan isn’t that far away and we were quickly welcomed with tea and towel. Our room... More

Being a business traveler and always on the go. I was in the Nagano area and needed a restful stop. To my amazement this charming onsen has definitely exceeded my expectations. As I first arrived I was warmly greeted by the hotel staff. My room was a charming traditional Japansese tatami room overlooking the tranquil mountains. They even provide you... More

This place makes you feel like a hip hop star when you stay because the way they treat you is like a king. The view we had was reminiscent of when Rafiki held out Simba from pride rock. I felt like I owned everything as far as the eye could see. You can see the mountains and city with nothing... More

This was my second visit in 4 months - came here in February to see the Snow Monkeys with a work colleague and had such a great experience that I decided to bring the family in the summer. We arrived in Yudanaka on the Snow Monkey Express from Nagano and since we were early, we walked the 10 minutes up... More

This was the first visit to a Japanese Ryokan and was I blow away by the experience. The service was beyond belief, from the pick up from the train station to the meals serviced. Every thing was done first class. We were a group of 14 that did not speak any Japanese, yet the staff and management make such an... More

We had a very nice weekend at the Ryokan Biyunoyado. I definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for an escape in Japan or a trip with the family or friends. All of the staff was extremely accommodating throughout our trip. You can tell the family really cares about the ryokan and the people staying there because the hotel owner... More

We arrived at the station and was greeted by an English speaking volunteer who called our ryokan to have someone pick us up. Mr. Kazu Watanabe not only picked us up but even offered to take us to Jigokudani Monkey Park and then pick us up again. The English speaking staff was very helpful in navigating our way around the... More

Loved our two nights at this very well managed ryokan. Beautiful setting, lovely traditional Japanese rooms, professional staff and fantastic food. Just a short drive from the Snow monkey park which was a great way to spend a morning. The hot spring bath in the hotel was fantastic. A great place to experience true Japanese hospitality. Highly recommend.
