Great dinner. There were so many beautiful dishes....we were so full. The private onsen is huge with massive changing room. They got kids size yukata and slippers too. Our kid 3 and 4 love it. Just ask at the reception. Outdoor onsen is so gorgeous. We wish we stayed longer than 2 nights. Breakfast is good mix of food. You... More

Go left once exiting Yudanaka station. Go up the street past Lawson convenience store and make a right at the next street to continue up the street past the post office. The annex building is on the right. Takes about 7 minutes to walk from the station. The whole place is quite dated and not very well-maintained so not really... More

will skip the historic/natural treasure bit as it has been mentioned by other reviewers. Athough it has been stated on its jp website that no one would serve you after check-in, nor the futons will be prepared as per their "simple-stay" approach, i still find this incompatible with all the other onsen ryokans in jp. Pros 1. historic / cultural... More

You come to this hotel for the onsen. The Momoyama Bath inside is a registered National Cultural Treasure, so this an an authentic onsen. Some hotels have little bath tub onsens, but this one has several onsens, with the big outdoor one being the feature, surrounded by bamboo and small waterfall and pagoda. It is stunning. The hotel is dated,... More

I would have given this hotel only 2 stars if it wasn't for their very beautiful onsen and very prompt services. The room (633) we stayed in was very very old and worn out. The heater made loud noise. So if you are a light sleeper this can be very irritating. The cleanliness of the room also needed improvement, especially... More

This hotel with it's stunning Onsen and friendly helpful staff don't make up for the fact that this hotel has not had any renovations or improvements since the '98 Winter Olympics, and there are maintenance issues as well. (damp and mould in the basement annex) The dinner prepared for our group both evenings were gastronomic works of art, and the... More

When I said the best, it's not just about whether it is luxury enough. It has a lot of history, the onsen is also the oldest in town and protected. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It's a short walk to yudanaka train station but they will pick u up, don't worry. I stay here for one night to... More

Stay at Yorozuya to visit the snow monkey park. My second objective is also to try the 桃山onsen in this ryokan which is suppose to be the oldest in the area. I was very impress with the onsen, it's classic architecture, beautiful wooden construction and the trees and outdoor onsen. It's fantastic. The lady at the front desk can speak... More

One of those low cost minimum service ryokan. Room & facility have nothing to appeal. The Japanese style tatami room is dated but clean. You have to do everything yourself - bringing your own bags & making your own bed (Japanese futon style). No luxury or hospitality you'd expect for a Japanesse ryokan. You would probably be disappointed by the... More

First up - the staff were really nice (especially the girl who spoke English who was charged with looking after us). The place is really quite dated. Our bathroom was stuck in the 60's or 70's. The next thing I noticed was that the floor hadn't been cleaned, then I found that our sheets and pillowcases weren't clean, then the... More
