As my first ski hotel, it seemed very good! Medium service but really good facilities and staff. They also provide with transportation from and to the train station. But the best part was the onsen between the snow mountains... incredible

We had 8 days skiing at Shiga Kogen based at the Sunroute Hotel. It was a short walk from the bus stop and to get to the ski slopes, just walk about 50 metres and then ski down onto the lift. The room we had was western style with it's own bathroom - all adequate. The only slightly off putting... More

'Average' because this is Japan and Shiga Kogen is a ski area that is not set up for western tourists - but that is it's charm! The Hotel Sunroute is one of the better places to stay for westerns who dont speak Japanese I think. The cultural differance is huge - communicating & finding food you are happy to eat... More

We have just returned from our skiing trip to Shiga Kogen and would certainly recommend the Hotel Sunroute. Yes it is a slightly older hotel and if you are expecting a Hyatt or Sheraton you would be dissappointed but the hotel is very clean and comfortable. The staff at both the front office and restaurants are very helpful and friendly... More

Sunroute in Shiga Kogen is a moderate level hotel, run by the best people around. The rooms are basic - ours was western style and had its own ensuite (as usual in Japan, the toilet had more buttons that my phone). It is a couple of minutes walk from the Ichinose lifts. Depending on conditions, you can ski back to... More

We stayed with adult children and extended family in adjoining rooms for a week. The location is a short walk to the ski lifts and there is also a bus stop at the hotel door for getting out to other ski areas. The hotel service was complete and of a high standard. The onsen in the hotel is fantastic and... More

If you are coming here to ski, you can’t go wrong. Truly lovely; the views, the slopes, everything. And that’s after one day of staying here, one day hammered by snowstorms and other types of on-and-off weather. I was just unfortunate to choose the wrong place to stay. So after a five minute walk in terrible clothing in a snowstorm... More

I went skiing in this area, the Sunroute is one of only a handful of chain hotels in the area. The room was very large and spacious, but had a slight, very slight musky smell. There was no English t.v. channel. The meal plan requires you take breakfast and dinner at the hotel, which was fine, cafeteria style. The food... More

We had 9 days at the Hotel Sunroute. First room we were gven smelled very badly of smoke so we asked to move - they coudln't do it the first day but found us a room the next day. They said they didn't have any non smoking rooms but were thinking of introducing them. As much of the cliental are... More

In a great central spot.. easy to walk to the slopes. Hotel had fantastic friendly service.. wireless only available in lobby though. Restaurants pretty good. Heaps of Aussies and kids at the hotel so if you want an Aussie free experience (we are Aussies) this is not the place for you. Great big Onsen and good sized rooms for a... More
