This place is fabulous, a traditional Japanese room in a modern and well equipped hotel with a free bus to the famous snow monkey park. You are greeted by traditionally dressed staff, who show you to your room which is very sparse, leave your shoes at the door! Then a short tea ceremony is presented and you are left alone.... More

My sister, mother and I spent two nights at Aburaya Tousen and I cannot say enough, we even tried to extend our stay but unfortunately they were fully booked (end of March). When we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely Japanese lady who brought us into the ryokan and presented us with tea and a small bean snack. She... More

Perfect, the decor, the reception, the tatami bedroom with a view of the mountains, the onsens with a very spacious changing room, the Onsen itself, the beautifully presented multi course dinner, the very personal service., even the shuttle bus service. Everything in the best of Japanese tradition. Absolutely swept away by this wonderful Ryokan mit meticulous service. Polite, discreet, helpful... More

We stayed 2 nights on 13-14 Feb 2015 in a Japanese style room with no private onsen but breathtaking views of the frozen river right in front of us & snow-capped mountains in the distance! Room was very spacious and comfortable and staff service (every single staff) was consistently excellent throughout our stay. They provide pick up service at the... More

Stayed at the Aburaya Tosen during our visit to the Jigokudani Snow Money Park and it turned out to be an excellent choice for an onsen hotel. We chose the rooms with western beds as weak knees make it hard to get out of the beds on the tatami floor easily and we even had our own private onsen facing... More

We stayed for a night at the Aburaya Tousen on 31 January and had a beautiful room with a private balcony and outdoor bath. We were greeted at the Yudanaka Train Station which was very welcome as it was snowing heavily when we arrived. The following morning we were driven to the entrance of the snow monkey park. Staff went... More

First stop in Japan and could not have asked for anything more. Exceeded our expectation. Staff incredible, restaurant delicious & such a unique and special experience, outdoor private onsen was amazing. We stayed two nights & could have happily stayed a third. Thank you so much to all the staff! Highly recommended!

We booked Aburaya Tousen when we could not get a response from Biyu no yado, what a stroke of luck this place is awesome. We love the onsen on our balcony with adjustable heat and the western/traditional combo suite is roomy for Japanese standards and also has in room bathroom/ toilet as well as the balcony shower. We opted for... More

We (two couples) stayed in both a standard room and a luxury hot tub suite. We found the staff to be welcoming and eager to please. We enjoyed unexpected extras such as live jazz, treats left in our room and the lounge offering coffee and views of the snowy mountains. Aburaya is a short walk across the river from Yudanaka... We had a fantastic time here. We had a traditional room, which was spacious and comfortable. We loved the lounge chairs overlooking the river and snow covered mountains. We enjoyed the luxury of coming back to our rooms after dinner with our futons laid out for the night. The dinners were amazing, deliscious Japanese food and a wide variety. From... More
