We loved this hotel and this was our first stop on a three week long journey around Japan. We booked the Japanese room which was really comfortable and different from what we have previously experienced. Food was great, really friendly staff and the location was great to visit the snowmonkeys.

There are 6 of us. When we arrive, staff came out to help us with our luggages. Park our car and serve us traditional tea and sweet to greet us. The person checking us in speak good English which we have no problem in understanding. We were directed to our rooms and explain clearly to us where we are, where... More

This should be one of those high end ryokan, maybe it's low season, that's how I can afford it. For ¥48,000/n. Room is big and come with the mountain view, and 2 meals included. The hotel compound is the very beautiful and the onsen is big and nice and most of the time I have it all to myself. There... More

You come here for the access to the monkey park, which is just as great as everyone says. But the hotel itself is a worthy destination. For westerners looking for a Japanese experience without going too far off the edge, this is perfect. The hot spring bath is beautiful, don't miss the outside in the snow. The futons on tatami... This traditional onsen hotel is a magical place to stay. Located close to the start of the snow monkey trail, it is set around a stunning forested hot spring. There are beautiful views from all the large windows. The room we had was traditional with tatami mats and stunning views over the valley from the balcony. When we went to... More

The hotel and ground are beautiful, spotless, and well appointed! The food was excellent! We are vegetarians and they accommodated us. The dinner was a 10-course, 2-hour meal served in a very traditional style. We couldn't stop eating because it was so good. But also it was more food than we were accustomed too. Kudos to the chef for accommodating... More

This is the closest hotel to the entrance of the trail, just about 1 block. Nice hotel, friendly and attentive staff. We called from Tokyo before arrival and they picked us up from the train station, 5 min ride to hotel. We do not eat much Japanese food so we brought food and champagne with us that we ate at... This is one of the longest commute we had in Japan, I think it took us approximately 6 hours to get from Kyoto to Yudanaka but it is well worth the time and effort. The easiest way to get to Yudanaka from Nagano Train station is to take the Nagano Dentetsu, which is located on the other side of the... More

This is not only a convenient place to see the snow monkey park, but also a nice experience for those not having been exposed yet to the traditional way of ryokan. Hotel: this is a well maintained hotel with nice decoration, including intersting paintings. The indoor garden is beautiful and the onsen is a must. Be aware that the little... More

This hotel and the experiences it offered were a highlight of our holiday to Japan. The hotel offers an upmarket experience of staying in a traditional Japanese room, using indoor and outdoor onsens and eating some very creative Japanese food. Add that it was snowing and our room looked out over snow covered fir trees. Oh, and add that it... More
