If you can manage to reach the Yudanaka train station (which is not so easy if you don't know how to get around Japan), the experience of staying at the hotel is wonderful. The hotel picks you up at the train station and takes excellent care of you during your stay. They will store your luggage or shuttle you to... More

This is a wonderful onsen within easy walking distance from Snow Monkey Park. It backs onto the bush and is well finished and tranquil. The rooms are spacious, well appointed in Japanese style and well finished in timber and natural products. The spas are wonderfully set out with both indoor and outdoor pools fed from very hot springs. We stayed... More

This is a beautiful place to stay, the staff are wonderful (they even have a special bus to take you to and from the station), the onsen are bliss, and all only a 30 minute walk to the monkeys. We stayed one night having travelled in from kyoto, and then left our luggage while we went to the monkey park... More

I came to this area to see the Snow Monkeys, and stayed at a hotel in nearby Yudanaka. I wish that instead I had stayed here at the Kanbayashi Hotel instead as it is right at the trail-head of the Snow Monkey park, and as it looked like a much better option. I stopped in when we came out of... More

Just returned from an extremely arduous trip to see the snow monkeys near Nagano,Japan. I was unlucky enough to go during the worst snow storm in 30 years which blocked the bullet train and took 14 hours for the normal 90 minute trip. Through the kindness of strangers on the train and SIM card, I contacted the hotel and they... More

We stayed here for one night after walking to see the Snow Monkeys in their reserve. We had previously been skiing in Akakura Onsen and this hotel was like a palace compared to many in the Nagano area. The staff were fantastic despite speaking almost no English. We had a wonderful meal and took advantage of the private Onsen. Informal... More

This has got to be the closest place to stay for the Snow Monkey Park. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel seres western food for breakfast which was very good but the dinners were very Japanese. I travelled as part of ta group and most people liked the food but being a non fish eater and fussy... More

Beautiful hotel within walking distance (1.8 miles) to the snow monkeys! Everyone is very welcoming and accommodating to your every need including western food. Do be prepared for futon mattresses on the floor for sleeping. I was too warm, as the heaters in the shower room and the bathroom cannot be adjusted-so I turned on the exhaust fans in both... More

The moment we entered the spacious lobby we knew we were in for a treat. Beautifully designed, large ryokan, we were greeted and seated and given tea while our bags were taken to our room. We were too early to check in and we intended to check out Snow Monkey Park anyway. The staff provided us with a map and... More

We stayed 2 nights at this elegant deco spa hotel at the foot of Shiga Kogen as an alternative for the non skiers in our group of 6 travellers and were blown away by the quiet, almost brooding atmosphere after 3 days of heavy snow falls. With seemingly very few other guests and nearly all of them Japanese ( whereas... More
