Yudanaka is a very beautiful small town at the end of the train line. It is confined by a valley and is surrounded by mountains. Further up the valley there is a ski Hill that looks very good. It seems Japanese people come here to relax and onsen, as there are 20 or 30 public baths (natural hotspring fed) in... More

Very basic, affordable, friendly, cozy. Walking distance to the village. The owner was super friendly and helpful accommodating our family of 5. The optional breakfast was good. The in house onsen is the real deal. The traditional Japanese archery demonstration is also worth checking out.

This place could easily be the best experience of my 1 month trip. The ryokan feels old and simple. I'd say that is a plus. It feels very real. The onsen was delightful. The owner spoke excellent english and was beyond friendly and accommodating. He went out of his way to make sure we were well, way more than I... More

I and my family had a great experience here! I have stayed in many ryokans, but I was looking for something that was traditional, but accessible to my family (who were first time visitors to Japan). It was beautiful setting, and the owner (Miyasaka-san) will go out of his way to help you with anything you need, from a ride... More

You will be getting a very low price but also have very threadbare accomodations. As others have stated, the owner is very nice as are the rest of the staff (family?). Location is off the beaten path aways but that should not be a big concern. The stench of dog piss in the lobby is a major turn-off. The conditions... More

The owners are very friendly, the dog is too. Basic but overal value for money is fantastic. Must watch the owners archery demonstration but have dinner first as mine went for 2 hours also and started at 8pm. Would stay here again in a heart beat!

Wonderful host, cosy and traditional ryokan with natural springs for bathing and delicious meals, the host even offers a kyudo experience (with a demonstration and beginner course) --> we will absolutely come back

The owner of Uotoshi seems to be a very nice person. He went out of his way to give us a ride to the station when we left, and he gave us (without charge) a very special demonstration of Japanese archery. We chose the place because it is also a Japanese archery (Kyudo) Dojo, and we were interested in learning... More

I stayed here with 10 others (Japanese, American, Czech, Vietnamese and Chinese friends). The building itself was old, but very well cleaned. The owner speaks excellent English, and his lecture about Japanese Kyudo (archery) in both English and Japanese was quite impressive. The only minus point was their showers. They have onsen (hot spring) inside of the Ryokan, but showers... More

Our stay at this Ryokan was one of the highlights of our stay in Japan. The owners were amazingly friendly (the man speaks great English), and offered to drive us to the monkey park, although it was such a nice trek we decided to walk. My friend and I were the only guests, so we had the baths to ourselves... More
