Visited this hotel for my friends wedding which the room had been booked for months. Travelled down from Newcastle on the Saturday, phoned on the Friday and was told by reception that check in time was 2pm... Stayed for one night after a day at Alton Towers. Reception and all staff were very friendly and room was nice usuall comfy big bed from Marriott, only complaint would be the bathroom was very small and not much heating. Chose this hotel for recuperation after illness. Paid for a suite and asked for a quiet room. As others have said the location is superb and initially our impression of our suite was favourable - two rooms, huge bed plus all the usual accoutrements. Soon reallised that there was no air conditioning or central heating - only a fan heater... more

What a beautiful place to stay. The room (once we found it lol) was gorgeous. King size bed was heavenly! plenty of cupboard space provided, bathroom was quiet spacious( the bath would be no good for someone 6 foot!), very clean thoughout, and very impressive. The hotel was gorgeous, the surroundings were beautiful, and it was value for money. The waiting staff were polite and competent, the reception was adequate, room service was slow, but there was a large wedding taking place so that was understandable. Rooms were clean, bathroom let them down slightly, could just do with a touch up of paint. more

I stayed with a group of friends during July 2009, the staff were very polite and pleasant, and the service excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel. more

Having stayed in another Marriott hotel which is not a Hotel and Country Club I expected this would be on a grander scale due to the increase in tarriff. However I found it to be no better than the one that we stay at regularly in Preston which costs a lot less. You get a similar room and breakfast yet... more
