Our week in The Old Granary Quoy was blissful. The cottage has been beautifully done up and has a real cosy, comfortable feel to it. It's ideally located for exploring all of Orkney's major sites - assuming you can drag yourselves away from lounging on the sofa looking at the sea views through the full length windows! The kitchen is... More

When we first booked Puffin Quoy for our self-catering Orkney holiday in June 2014, I was rather disappointed that the larger Granary wasn't available because Puffin looked nice but a bit small and pokey in the photos I'd seen. However, as soon as we stepped through the door of Puffin, we immediately realised that it is far from pokey! In... More

We were welcomed by Caroline and Kevin in their usual extra-ordinary way, the welcome basket always a treat! We ordered a dinner prepared by the gastronomic Caroline, it was as always divine, the addition of scallops in the Chowder that was already jam packed with assorted seafood was a real treat? The eggs in the welcome basket which we had... More

The Quoy of Houton is a lovely B&B with one guest room and two luxurious self catering bungalows. Caroline Crowther and her husband Kevin (who was recovering from a brain tumour op) were great hosts (not Christian it would seem). She had been a teacher. He a farmer. The house has a nice well designed garden (opens some Sundays under... More

Self-catering does not come any better than the Granary at the Quoy of Houton. Caroline and Kevin have created a superb set-up that is enhanced even more by their hands-on approach and attention to detail. The accommodation is spacious, modern, and beautifully-designed. The lounge has views over the bay and harbour of Houton, and beyond to Scapa Flow - and... More

I can't imagine more welcoming hosts than Caroline and Kevin. Nor can I imagine a better mascot than Crumble, puppy dog extraordinaire. Upon arrival, Caroline fixed us tea and cakes in the viewing room, a little gazebo overlooking the gardens, pasture and the ferry dock on the Bay of Houton. We felt immediately part of the family, especially after Crumble... More

Our 3 night stay with Caroline and Kevin (and don't forget the sweet Crumble, and the 'War of the Slugs') was an experience we will treasure for a long long time. A veritable home from home! Warm, friendly, welcoming, helpful, relaxed, cosy and clean, yummy breakfasts (fresh berries, rhubarb etc mmmmmm) - in short - just the best stay ever!... More

My husband and I stayed for 4 days early summer and wished we had stayed longer. The setting and garden are extraordinary. Kevin and Caroline were incredibly accommodating. Everything from breakfast (fresh, local, organic, free range are qualities that best describe her fabulous breakfasts) to helpful and knowledgeable information about prehistory and historical sites off the beaten path. . In... More

Our original booking for the last two days of our stay had to be cancelled by the B&B owner. However she found us alternative accommodation at the Quoy of Houton and emailed us to let us know, and when we rang she gave us directions to find the new super alternative she had booked, doubling our 25% deposit, so that... We were delighted with our choice of B&B for a six night stay on Orkney. A wonderful traditional building in pristine gardens overlooking the bay and harbour. Our hosts were most attentive to our well being and a mine of useful information on where to go and what to see. Excellent en-suite accommodation and a morning cup of tea (much... More
