15 of us came to eat here to celebrate a birthday on a busy Saturday night, and we all left with happy tums and smiles on our faces! The staff were all so friendly, and did a great job at keeping us all happy. The drinks were continuously flowing, and we never had much of a wait for anything considering... More

We took my 89 year old mother-in-law to The Chequers for lunch on Mothers Day. She normally eats very little, but ate mushrooms in garlic & white wine sauce with a brioche, followed by Roast Pork and all the trimmings - including a Yorkshire Pudding- leaving only one of three potatoes! My husband and I had the duck in hoisin... More

Had Sunday lunch there with some old friends. Staff very welcoming, food first class, had the roast beef, my wife had the pork, plenty of vegetables supplied, were offered more if wanted, finished with a lovely pudding. All four of us were impressed, will definitely return

I stayed Saturday night at The Chequers Inn as I was attending a wedding reception at Kingston Bagpuize House 3 miles away. I was very pleased with my room and en suite bathroom-all very well appointed, quiet and comfortable. Lovely fresh smelling white bedding,a good strong shower, tea and coffee in the room and a pretty garden view from my... More

We eat here during a stay in Oxford. We were welcomed by the owners daughter who was delightful as were all the staff. I had a lovely homemade mushroom soup to start with and my other half had a great pate. He then had the pie of the day (steak and kidney) which was filling and tasty - the waitress... More

We went for a meal recently I'm afraid to say it's nowhere near as good as it was. The table was so sticky everything stuck to it they forgot our bottle of wine and we had to ask again. The meals were not to the previous standard and nothing special, the sausages were horrible and looked like they had been... More

We were very close to Charney Bassett after visiting Abingdon. We just had to go back for old times sake,( we looked after the Chequers for 9 weeks in 2006 for the brewery) we were not dissapointed, in fact we were absolutely delighted with the whole place, the hanging baskets were stunning, our first comment. the garden and car park... We stopped off here for lunch, only to be told they had finished serving food but could offer us a sandwich. Choices were different types of cheese, Parma ham or prawns. We all chose cheese, it was horrible, bread wasn't fresh, it was tasteless, and to top it off it cost £5.75 each, plus £3.90 for a pint. Although the... More
