A perfect base for exploration of the Tokai region. Moreover, the hotel has its own wine cellar. The rooms are nice, spacious and comfy, it's only that the mini bar is locked, and one has to pay for the key at the reception. more

We stayed for a mid-February holiday weekend at the Grof Degenfeld with two other wine-swilling couples and what a gem of a place we found it to be! This is just about the only decent full-service hotel in and around Tokaj. The Grof Degenfeld hotel is in nearby (3km) Tarcal, and is completely surrounded by vineyards. Check In was effortless... more

Beautiful old-style hotel, perfectly located if you're wine-tasting in Tokay. Indeed, it has its own vineyard and you taste their excellent wines in their own cellar. They will also arrange tastings at other vineyards - I'd recommend Disznoko, just a kilometre up the road for a fine tasting experience. The Degenfeld Hotel is quiet and peaceful, with very friendly service.... more

We recently spent 2 nights at this gem of a hotel and wish that we had been there longer. We found the hotel an oasis of luxury in rural Hungary. The beautiful gardens and pool encouraged us to just relax and take some time out to do nothing. I would also highly recommend the wine tasting, the house wines are... more

Grof Degenfeld was probably the highlight of our six night trip to East Europe. My mum's family are from the region and it was a lovely area of vineyards and wineries. Much nicer than just staying in Budapest. The hotel was a gem. Very nicely done and luxury. One problem we had was my parents were given a twin room... more

I have just spent 3 days on business in Tokaj, Hungary which is very simple, quite poor and has very little amenities. I stayed 15 minutes outside of Tokay and I'm really pleased I decided to make the effort and not plump for staying in the town itself. I'm not sure if the Degenfeld has been renovated or is quite... more

My husband and I stayed at Grof Degenfeld for 3 days in August 2006 (in fact we booked for 2 nights but extended our stay because we liked it so much). This is a real gem of a hotel, in an area that has a shortage of good quality hotels. We had a lovely spacious room with good bathroom facilities.... more

Stayed at the Grof Degenfeld Hotel and Winery in July 2004. A beautiful new hotel in a very beautiful area about 3-4 hours drive east of Budapest. The hotel was absolutely first rate. The restaurant was wonderful. The hotel arranged for tours of neighboring wineries, (as well as their own), complete with a driver/guide. World class wine and a great... more
