just stayed 2 nights and was concerned before booking about some of the reviews, but i'm glad to say that anything negative is unfounded. it is welcoming and friendly, a hive of peace and tranquility, with very good food with several choices for each course at the evening meal, and equally plenty of choices for breakfast. the bedroom was very good;... more

Nice location and welcoming proprietors, but the food was awful and the room not only tired and old fashioned but also unacceptably tatty, with a disgraceful ensuite. We checked out early. Vastly overpriced and inaccurately described on the web. more

Talk about the trip that never happened! My wife (newly handfasted) and I were booked to stay at this hotel on 26/27 Feb 2009, for the final few days of our honeymoon. My wife was very excited to be staying next door to Beatrix Potters home. What a let-down! On Tues 24th Feb (our wedding day) we recieved a call... more

My boyfriend and I spent one night at this hotel last weekend and absolutely loved it. It's a big country house with around 14 rooms, each beautifully decorated to suit the style of the house. The staff were extremely attentive, whenever we wanted anything they were ready to assist, but never seemed to be in the way. The view from... more

I have had the great fortune of staying at hotels costing ten times what the Sawrey House charges and left without feeling the sense of delight and absolutely satisifcation following my short stay here. The hotel is beautiful, the staff attentive, the location and views are post card beautiful. A+ experience and one day I would love to return to... more

Visiting from New Zealand we had a wonderful 5 days at Sawrey Country Resort. After an initial hiccup with the room (the one reserved had been allocated to someone staying 7 nights), John the owner couldn't do enough to make amends, offering us a reduced rate for DBB as compensation. If you stay here, it is definitely worth booking the... more

We had not planned on staying overnight in Hawkshead - we thought we would keep going and look in Windemere or Ambleside for accomodation for the night - but then we saw Sawrey House and just turned in the Driveway. It's a National Trust owned house and is a delight to see and to stay and its just beside Hill... more

Stayed at hotel for weekend. Hotel has class and style while ofering very reasonable on-line rates. The room, while a little small, had everything in it. Great base for walking around Beatrix Potter country. Nice, friendly staff. Great Breakfast, loved the local marmalade. Restaurant has wonderful view over Esthwaite Water. I certainly hope to stay there again one day. Highly... more

Note that this is NOT the Sawrey Country House Hotel. The small Sawrey Hotel is everything glitzy fashionable hotels are not. It offers plain old-fashioned hospitality of the best kind. Don't expect large smart bedrooms or trendy cuisine here. What you get is a warm, English hotel-cum-pub with two bars (one in the old stables), real ale, a log fire... more
