Comfortable country house hotel in a fabulous setting. The owners take great pride in offering a superior service and the quality of food is certainly one of the reasons you'd want to stay here. The rooms are clean and comfortable and there are nice touches, such as supplies of toiletries such as earbuds and there is complimentary sherry. If you... More

We stayed for two days to experience the Lake District, no better way to live the Beatrix Potter experience then to stay here. No shower in the room left us having baths each day forcing us to stop and think about the day was extremely relaxing. The room was comfortable although it may have been the concussion from hitting out... More

Travelzoo offer. Sad that the hotel would not offer dinner on second night as everyone on Travelzoo offer with dinner included on one night only. Would have had dinner on second night if available - would have expected dinner to be available in a hotel of this class. The proprietor/chef very friendly and welcoming, but not everyone was that customer... More

We stayed for two nights on the recommendation of the Good Hotel Guide. Our room, 'Sunshine' had wonderful, stunning, views from two sides and we had amazing sunsets on both evenings. The fixtures in the room were not amazing. The bed was a standard double, lumpy and the pillows long overdue for an upgrade. A mattress topper would have improved... More

We had a lovely warm welcome off owner Richard when we arrived... we paid extra to have a Room with a View and boy what a view... the local Lake and surrounding snow clad mountains were a stunning site from our window... the 8 bedroom house is truly lovely... always toasty warm with a dog grate fire in one of... Delightful hosts in traditional country house hotel set in beautiful lakeland. Our welcome tea in the lounge in front of a roaring fire, Richard and Margaret's attention to detail including many "added extras", as well as their care, concern and Richard's quiet sense of humour, made our stay one to remember. The food was a really high standard and we... More

Stayed for two nights last month on a Travelzoo deal, and couldn't believe our good fortune. In a beautiful setting overlooking Esthwaite Water, next door to Beatrix Potter's place, and with the equally highly recommended Tower Inn around 400m away, the location would be hard to better in this price range, as would the quality of the food and accommodation.... This truly is a country house hotel. Set in marvellous countryside, it is a perfect retreat from the rigours of life. It has a small number of rooms; ours was slightly 'tired'. It was quite large, had the usual facilities, with one major issue (perhaps for taller people), I repeatedly caught my head on low sloping roof timbers in both... More

We booked this hotel on a Travelzoo voucher and we were delighted to find a superbly situated, warm and welcoming place awaiting us when we arrived in pouring rain.Richard and Margaret are lovely hosts and have put a lot of effort and thought into the whole place. From the decanter of sherry with pretty glasses, to the pot of useful... More
