It was a very drizzly day so how pleasant it was to have such a warm welcome. We weren't exactly well dressed for a Sunday lunch but it didn't seem a big issue. Food great (Cullen skink then fish), service good and so was the view through the rain!. Next time I will stay over a spend a bit more... More

Fab hotel, really friendly with a warm welcome, particularly for our 2 young children. Rooms are comfortable and clean though I understand a refurb is planned. Views over the bay are out of this world, and the food is excellent - in particular, the Cullen Skink of course - but generally top of the range dining at really good value... More

....there is no denying that this hotel has a wonderful location but after that almost everything else is mediocre. The food is quite expensive and of variable quality. Although the serving staff are very friendly, the standard of service is very slow and poor. My breakfast order took almost an hour on three occasions (poached egg and tomato) and on... More

Have stayed in this hotel a few times while in the area. New owners have been working through a slight refurbishment but I really fell there is no improvement. Some rooms are slightly up dated but others are needing more work. The coffee filter machine that was there in the past has now been replaced with sachets of instant coffee.... More

Stayed a week. I was reminded of hotels 10 to 20 years ago though I understand the owners are planning a major refurb of rooms and especially bathrooms this autumn as they are a bit tired. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. I was particularly impressed with the efforts they made to accommodate my dietary needs. The cooked breakfasts were... More

We stayed at this hotel the weekend of the Portsoy Boat Fesitval at the end of June 2014. Staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Our breakfast was amazing. Our room had a sea view which is worth asking for.

What a lovely place to relax and admire the view, been here a few times and the food is always good as is the service. Recently went for Sunday Lunch and every one of us enjoyed our lunch, I had mussels to start which were truly delicious and perfectly cooked, pate apparently was good too, the Sunday roast meats and... The location was stunning, overlooking a golf course, beach and the sea. What a pity we were viewing the scenery from a weary property. This was the only Hotel in Cullen, so demand well exceeded supply. There was no competition locally and there was no incentive to deliver something special. The result was a large B & B masquerading as... More

After a stay at The Cullen Bay I thought I'd better revisit Tripadvisor reviews, as I'm sure that I stayed at a different hotel. Certainly the hotel looks amazing when driving up to it, but the entrance was littered with cigarette ends, not a good start. Check in was curt and unfriendly. The room was tired and shabby, wallpaper was... More

Just made a quick call to the hotel (which I have visited a few times over the past years), totally recommended, my family are presently there now. Its dad's birthday, it was 'nae bother' whatsoever to take the phone to say hi, sort out a pudding and for them & sing happy birthday. Well worth a trip and a stay... More
