We stayed for one night in late July. The room was a big letdown. Uncomfortable bed that squeaked with every small turn, no lights or light switch anywhere near the bed (so you had to get out of bed to turn on / off the ceiling lights or the wall lights mounted on the other side of the room!), the... A lovely old world hotel/ pub. The hosts were very welcoming and the locals welcomed you in. Food was well cooked and lovely. The only down point was the room. It was very small and as 60+ years old, trying to get in and out of the bath was very awkward and uncomfortable, as it had a sloping roof. I... More

What the Rhymney lacks in luxury is made up for by the inedible welcoming and friendly hosts. We arrived about 10pm on a Saturday night when we were expecting to be there about 6.30pm, but due to the main road being closed and a long trip from Dover we were running behind time. Upon our arrival we were asked what... More

Stayed here for one night this week . Booked through Laterooms and to say the description of the rooms or the pictures shown didn't live upto expectations is a massive understatement. The hotel car park and landscape are very unkempt and scruffy . The room (8) was a disgrace and should never be let out again until serious refurbished and... More

As a seasoned traveller I made the mistake of looking at the overall rating and not checking the individual reviews on this occasion. Stayed here with husband & other family members as all hotels in Merthyr were fully booked. Warm welcome and lovely rustic feel about the hotel until you went up to the rooms. The beige carpets in the... More

Interesting setting in the countryside, hotel is very dated. Warm welcome when I arrived, swiftly taken to my room which was on the second floor (Room 8) I wasn't a lover of the room or cleanliness. Bed was like a blurmonge, toilet seat broken on hinges, toilet flush handle just about hanging in there, shower very poor pressure & flitted... More

I have stayed at the Rhymney house hotel twice and have always found it to be a warm and friendly place. I stay there for the people, community and friendliness. The staff are lovely and have a wealth of knowledge about the area. The bar is frequented by locals, so there is always someone to chat to. The food is... More

Unfortunately, we didn't look at any reviews before choosing this hotel, if we had, we definitely would have gone elsewhere. Our booking was based on viewing the hotel website, where all looked fine. The whole venue is tired and out of date and would require a vast amount of money to bring up to standard. Everywhere inside smelt of smoke... More

Just a little country Pub but we were made to very welcome by everyone including the locals. We chose this place because it was central to the places we wanted to visit on our family history trail and each night the locals eagerly awaited news of our findings. They also gave helpful advice of places to visit. A welsh group... More
