spent four nights there in executive room - dinner first night, starter substituted and both mains cold and sent back - second meal very good apart from dessert. one of the mornings porridge came with lots of sugar and cream in it with no request and had to go back - staff unhelpful when we requested a sun umbrella -... more

Top-class hotel and extremely good value for money. We had been driving around the coast that evening and wanted a hotel to stay for the night. We stumbled upon this hotel in the little fisherman village of Portloe very late in the evening. We felt so welcomed at the hotel and were given an executive room with breakfast and dinner... more

This is very expensive and overrated. Portloe is lovely but the hotel only average. No hairdryer in the room, t.v faulty. Breakfast poor compared to much cheaper hotels, supermarket croissants and poor quality fruit. Had to ask 6 times to get a glass of water and the restaurant was the worst we ate at in Cornwall, fish rubbery...when we complained... more

Thank you for taking the time to write a response on Trip Advisor. I was saddened to hear that your experience at the Lugger Hotel did not meet your expectations. In response to your opinions, I can confirm that we have hairdryers in all rooms and if one is found to be absent, then we have many to hand for...

I'm not normally one for writing reviews, but after reading some of the reviews on here I thought I would. The Lugger is in a fantastic location, which in itself makes for a great stay, but that is not all that the Lugger offers. This was our third stay at the Lugger and I can honestly say every time it... more

My husband and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at The Lugger Hotel's Cottage Suite. We arrived just too late for lunch, but were offered afternoon tea and sandwiches, which we ate in the comfortable lounge. This was a good start and the staff were friendly and professional. Small problems occurred the longer we stayed, however, that,... more

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Lugger Hotel. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay with us. However, I was saddened that your expectations of the Lugger Restaurant were not met by myself or my colleagues. The points you raise are valid and I am delighted to announce the following...

We just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Lugger. Comfortable rooms, even mini cafetiere and fresh milk provided, the atmosphere is low key and relaxed. The setting is spectacular, we stepped directly out for cliff walks before breakfast each morning, so we could give full attention to proper poached eggs and light as air fried bread. We had only... more

We nearly stayed at The Lugger Hotel in January 2008, but having read some unfavourable reviews and been less than reassured by the response from the hotel when questioned about this, we decided to give it a miss. However, we were persuaded by Giles Coran's review in The Times that it was worth a punt! On arrival we were warmly... more

We stayed at The Lugger for our son's wedding and we had a wonderful time. The staff could not do enough for everybody. They were very attentive and friendly, what the younger one's lacked in experience they made up in enthusiasm and helped the whole event to go like clockwork. Caroline marshalled her troops calmly and efficiently and no request... more

I am severly disappointed to read the terrible reviews about the Lugger Hotel in Portloe. I recently attended a wedding there, where we took over the entire hotel. the location was beautiful, the rooms were immaculate, the staff were fantastic and the whole experience was great - not at all reflective of anything that has been said on some of... more

Went to the Lugger for my husband's birthday and they said there was a weekend wine tasting event on. However should have known something amiss when they could not tell us anything about the wine tasting. Arrived at the Lugger on the Friday afternoon and went to reception to the receptionist who could not speak English! Now there was someone... more

Thank you for your feedback which I have discussed with my front office department. Here at the Lugger we pride ourselves in customer service and the standards we offer and clearly on this occasion we have failed to deliver. We do try to offer equal opportunities and your comments will enable us to assess in which areas require staff training...
