Stayed for a night in a comfortable basic twin room - Room Number 1 Room plus points: Great value Decent size room No road noise from nearby A38 Minus points: Bathroom - although overall it appeared clean, there was a distinct stale urine smell around the toilet. A more thorough cleaning approach is required. Very intrusive light pollution through uncovered... More

We stayed for a wedding near by and had a lovely big room. Breakfast was lovely, staff were lovely and a very comfy bed indeed. The rooms could do with a bit of a freshen up and a bit of DIY (our bath felt like it was going to cave in and the panel was ripped off the side) but... More

My partner and i stayed with a group of friends for a wedding. Our room featured a broken chest of drawers, a barely attached towel rail, iffy shower basin and holes in the bathroom tiles where fixtures and fittings had been moved but noone had bothered to remove the red rawlplugs OR replace the tiles. A friend a few rooms... More

We live locally and fancied popping out for a meal on father's day but were unfortunately very disappointed. We were told to sit in what was the reception area rather than the restaurant which was very odd and lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. We were then asked to order food before even being offered a drink and got the overall impression... More

Scrumptious food, pretty location, good cleanliness, friendly staff, fair price BUT; did not particularly enjoy the nocturnal 'extras' offered by two rather rambunctious guests putting on a full theatrical show for all other guests to hear in their rooms, resulting in a later than expected night for several of us. This issue should have been addressed by the staff politely... More

A beautiful setting... The hotel had a few dated features and could have been a little cleaner. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average but overall would stay again and the bed was really comfy :) Big carpark, nice garden and pleasant experience.

30 - 40 years ago as the A38 dual carriageway project Exeter - Plymouth neared completion someone down in Plymouth direction had a brilliant idea: 'Let us,' they said, 'build a new hotel, close by the main road. It'll pick up the passing trade, it'll pick up the holiday trade, it'll make our fortunes!' Alas for hopes! The Smithaleigh labours... More

My husband and I stayed for one evening. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by pleasant, friendly staff. We were very happy with the room and found the bed one of the more comfortable we've had in a hotel. Breakfast was good with a nice selection and we felt it was good value for money. We enjoyed the... More

I arrived for an overnight stay having booked online. If I am honest, had I driven in on the off-chance I would have been put off by the abandoned car, stuffed full of junk, sitting on two flat tyres in the car park and evidently had been there a good while. But… very welcoming staff, comfortable beds and a very... More

Me and my fiancé absolutely love this hotel and stay here very regularly. The staff are always friendly and the food is fantastic. We are actually in the stages of planning our wedding here. The rooms are very clean and although some are slightly outdated, I had a conversation with one of the staff members about renovation and new rooms... More
