I have visited this pub on many occasions, but I feel I must make a comment about the food we were served last night it was on par with a top class restaurant, the menu is extensive but we like to try something different from the "pub classic's".The pork was so tasty, the crackling as it should be,I savoured every mouthful presentation was... We sought out the pub for lunch and were not disappointed with the atmosphere and warm welcome and the menu was extensive and beautifully presented. The service was great and we both opted for home-made pies (steak and turkey, leek and bacon). Both were served with well prepared and cooked veg and we followed on with home-made crumble, which was... More

A return visit was always our intention. We came for lunch and chose from the wide selection on the black board.. The order was taken and the food served in an acceptable time. We both chose the home made pie It was ok, but nothing special. It isn't expensive and they serve an adequate lunch time portion size. However its... More

We had an evening meal here on Thursday 31st July. There is a very wide ranging menu with something for everyone. I chose the goats cheese tart but in fact was told there was no goats cheese available so an alternative with nettle cheese was offered. This was a very interesting alternative - new to me but lovely. There was... More

A menu that has something for everyone. Quality food and lots of it, great value for money. We found the staff to be very friendly and attentive. Living in the Middle East, we look forward to returning to this pub each year for its fantastic food.

With a blackboard menu covering everything you can think of from simple gammon to game pie and spicy chicken salad, it took a lot of thought about what to order until I spotted the slow roast pork belly with black pudding and cider sauce at £10.95. The menu prices range from £7 to £17 for a main course. OH had... More

We arrived at the pub at 9pm as we were doing the coast to coast and needed food because there was nowhere near apart from here. They stop serving at 9pm so we asked the bar maid if we could pick a macdonalds up from 10 mile away in consett even though this pubs is suppost to be in consett,... More

Having just completed a days hike in the moors above, I was looking forward to a swift pint before returning home. Upon entering The Punchbowl, I was met with a smiley happy greeting which was very welcomed. The place was packed with people having their Sunday lunch and the heavenly aroma from the kitchens wafted around the bar area. With... More

Popped in here after a long walk and weekend in the region Warmly welcomed by the bar staff, we were promptly seated and brought our drinks We then tucked into excellent roast beefs and a lamb, followed by splendid sticky toffee puddings and a Christmas pud- just as rich and tasty in June :) Really enjoyed this first visit.
