Stayed prior to taking the Tunnel to France. The Ship Inn has 3 faces - a "real" pub, untouched by time, a very contemporary and good restaurant, and excellent rooms furnished and equipped to a very high standard overlooking the beach. We have no hesitation in recommending this very friendly hotel.

We stayed here before going to France on the Eurotunnel so only stayed one night but was really glad we did. This area has really suffered due to the recent migrant troubles with the Eurotunnel. Bookings have been cancelled and we were unsure ourselves at one point but the quality of the room on offer(sea view), cleanliness and general comfort... More

We stopped here en route to the Channel Tunnel. When we first pulled up. ....just before midnight, the pub was in full Friday night throttle and I did think Oh dear. But the doorman welcomed us, the ladies behind the bar were so welcoming and waited for us to have a quick drink before showing us to to our spacious... More

We made a short stop there on the way home. The hotel is located in an old house which would probably need a good deal of renovation, nevertheless the room we had was neat, tidy and very clean. The bathroom was modern and functional in all the expected ways (which cannot always be taken for granted in the UK). The... More

We parked on Hythe seafront as we fancied a walk and set off to Sandgate. It was lunch time and we noticed this pub in Sandgate. We remember it as being run down and small but it has obviously had a make over. The pub now extends from Sandgate High street to the seafront and apart from a lovely looking... More

Spent one nt here en route to the tunnel, very convenient. Lovely pub, very nice food in the restaurant. Room very comfortable, had the suite on the top floor, after entering thru a door outside from the pub looked really quite dingy and the stair carpet is grotty, however what a lovely surprise......room lovely bathroom great, bed quality superb. Wonderful... More

We were recommended by the staff at the Holiday inn to The Famous Ship Inn. Walking through the typical working man's pub through to the well decorated and modern restaurant was interesting. The table service was good, pleasant staff, a reasonable selection of food. We both had the beer battered(with a bottle of lager???)cod, chips and salad. Generous portions and very tasty.... More

Ended up here for the second time following an aborted day trip to France, due to Channel Tunnel problems. We really enjoyed the food the first time and were not disappointed the second time. The pub is in a great location and I understand it has been standing for over 200 years. The bar area is dark and old but... More
