Her indoors and I were out sporadically, managed to get quite thirsty. We happened on this pub outside Dent. Lady was stood on the Doorstep with child in ar,ms. You open I bellowed, yes the response, parked the van in spacious car park. Went inside very traditional old style country pub, fire was on the gents was outside. Pint of... More

Called in for a couple of drinks with friends whilst exploring the surrounding area. Only one real ale available and landlord was more interested in chatting to the locals sat at the bar than serving us. Pleasant enough pub and probably worth another visit if we can work out when they are open as the opening times appear to change... More

Stayed here at the weekend. I arrived late at night due to traffic on the M6. Friendly welcome and a pint was on the bar for me when I came down from my room. Food was excellent well cooked and not pretentious in the slightest. My room was warm clean and the bed comfy. If you want TV in your... More

We recently had a large family (21 people) weekend gathering in Dent Dale and decided to pre-book the Sportsman's inn for Sunday lunch as it was only a short walk down the lane from our accommodation. We found Ron and his family to be very welcoming and very organised in dealing with our large party. The food was good quality,... More

We have never met such an unfriendly reception in a pub or B&B before. We arrived wet through at 2.50pm after a long day of driving rain - rather early but it had not been a day for stopping to admire views. I managed to get a pint but a request for a cup of tea for my wife was... More

We only ate here but worth the visit. The home made steak pie was excellent, very tasty and the chips were well cooked and plentiful. The building is in keeping with the area - unspoilt and in the winter has a real fire. Quiet spot, friendly staff, walkers and bikers welcome. Car park to rear. We'll be returning.

Set in a lovely location the sportsman has plenty to offer. It serves lovely home cooked food and a good pint. We did not stay overnight but it looked clean and inviting. My only reason for not giving full marks is for the little signs everywhere warning you to keep your children well behaved or they will be leaving early.... More

We arrived dripping wet having cycled down from the station in the rain- some Dales Way walkers arrived at the same time, but the arrival of six or seven very damp people wasn't made a problem, we were all cheerfully welcomed in and everyone's weather gear and boots were set to dry. Our room was comfortable and warm and the... More

I can confirm that it is £75 for a double room per night which is £19 more expensive than quoted on the DW site. This was disappointing as all the other prices quoted had been accurate and we had made the mistake of assuming this one would be as well. All bedrooms have their own bathrooms and our room was comfortable... More

How glad our party was to see the sportsman after a long day on the dales way, this is a pub out of the top draw showing how a husband and wife team working together can provide good ale, fine bedrooms all with a separate deep bath across the hall all in excellent order. The food was good and provided what...
