I visited this pub several times during my recent stay in the area. Although it does provide accommodation, my visits were to sample the beer, the atmosphere and food. I enjoyed all three. This is a great pub. Sandra and Ron are excellent hosts, and made me feel welcome straight away. The real coal file presents a cosy atmosphere on... More

This is a rustic pub, and you do not get ensuite bathrooms with your room, but do still get a dedicated bathroom for each of the 6 rooms, across the corridor. Food is served at strictly limited hours morning and night. The bar serves excellent beer, and surprisingly good food for what on the face of it is a rustic... More

A great weekend at Cowgill in Dent Dale. Ron and Sandra were perfect hosts and our weekend exceeded all expectations. The venue was warm and welcoming. All the Staff work very hard to ensure every comfort. It was wonderful to sleep with the window open and to hear the calming sound of the nearby stream. Thanks for everything.

A welcome place to stay on the Dales Way. The bedroom was fine and we had a private shower and bath. Food in the evening was nice and breakfast good. It was slightly noisy in the evening, but it is a pub. A bit pricey for a B&B but we had limited choice in the area.

We stayed for four nights over the August Bank Holiday (four nights for the price of three!), and had a wonderful time. The rooms were comfortable - with the river running by outside - the food delicious, and the landlords couldn't have been more kind and caring. We even had a bit of a problem during our stay and they... More

The Penine brew was excellent, nice roaring fire on a wet day, and the landlord and landlady very friendly. After visiting, I read all the reviews most of which were favourable! I can't help commenting on the few negative comments - Yes, there is limited mobile phone coverage and yes, the landlord has a Yorkshire accent! Its in the Yorkshire... More

We had dinner here last night as we were staying at self catering accommodation along the road. My boys of 6,9 and 11 were made most welcome. Great menu with great home made food for the kids which was healthy and tasty. The owner was really charming and he looked after us well and and even helped us out when... More

As I said I arrived with muddy boots and a dog. Was made To feel as welcome as a Fart in a Spacesuit. Would not call in again if I was passing. I wondered why there was nobody in such a beautiful place. Now I know why. Unless you like bikes. Avoid this place like you would the plague

Visited with friends. Have been before with mixed feelings about the place so decided to give it another go. The fact we could get a table when other local placed were full should have been a warning. Put in corner under very dodgy speaker that kept bursting into crackly life and then silence. Waited ages to order and food when... More

Problem with this particular review making me feel that it is either posted in the wrong location or fraudulent. We can find no record of anyone with that name in our booking diary, we don't sell Jennings, we do sell cider (with the exception of a short period during change over from Thatcher's to Somersby's when we stocked bottled cider)... After a long day over the fells, seeing the pub as you round the corner is one of the most welcome sights on the Dales Way...especially when it's raining. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our rooms. It looks like they have been recently renovated and they are clean, bright and really lovely...the bathrooms are lovely too,... More
