Just spent a glorious 4 days at the Brown Trout golf and country club. Friendliest staff we've ever encountered and we have travelled the world from Singapore to Cape Town from LA to Venice. Food was delicious, varied, freshly cooked and served with a smile. The room was spacious, beds really comfortable, shower brilliant, and setting quiet. Spent the days... More

The Brown Trout is a really friendly, family run hotel which combines polite efficiency, lovely surroundings, & really tasty, delicious fresh local food. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy your surroundings and there really is a huge difference in being family owned & run.

If you to chill in a very civilised part of the world, then look no further. We were over from Central Scotland for a few days (the place was full of Scottish golfers and fishers - but we were not numbered among them) and stumbled across this gem. A great place to eat and stay. Relaxing in the country, but... More

We stayed after a family party as we didn't want to drive home. I didn't expect much with only a 3* rating. I couldn't have been more wrong. A warm welcome from all the staff, lovely fresh food, a comfortable cosy room and we will be back! The decor and style of the hotel is a bit retro and you... More

Stayed again for three nights in March 2015. Still the same friendly service, excellent rooms and marvellous food! Stayed several times last year and were never disappointed! Two other family members also stayed this year.A great spot to relax.

This is the first time we have been to the Brown Trout and it certainly will not be our last! It is very warm, welcoming & cosy, perfect for a relaxing stress free getaway. We took our Springer Spaniel with us, and we were allowed her in the tiled area beside the fire. The food is wonderful, the lamb shank... More

This place needs a serious facelift. Food ok and fires are lovely, but that's about it. Rooms dated and so is the rest of hotel. They have a policy allowing dogs but they need to keep them out of food areas.
