My partner and I were really looking forward to eating out on Christmas Day for a treat but after our experience at Friars Carse we will not be back! We booked a table for 1pm. and arrived punctually. We were told to sit in the small bar area and someone would collect our drinks order. The bar was a few... more

We spent 4 nights in late July in this beautiful building. The grounds are fantastic, peace and tranquility, with beautiful mature trees and the river running through where we regularly watched fish jumping during the early evening. The hotel itself, although clearly old, is generally well cared for and the rooms were comfortable. Our experiences in the restaurant were, unfortunately,... more

I came to the Hotel in special circumstances for a Folk Music Summer School for five nights. This made special demands on the staff, with people staying in the building all day playing and singing, and being joined by an equal number of guests who were lodged elsewhere. In spite of the extra work almost all the staff were helpful... more

The receptionist must of thought we had stayed here before as looked gone out at us when he handed the keys to us and expected to know where the bedrooms were !! Very breif welcome and up... more

We had a fabulous Burns Experience here in the hotel's Honeymoon suite, which was huge and really lovely. We booked at the last minute last year and got the very last room, which was adequate and clean but not the best, so booked early for this year to make sure we got nice rooms for us and our friends who... more

I read reviews about the place (after we had booked unfortunately) so I was prepared for the hotel being a little rough around the edges but it was a lot worse than expected. We hated it so much we left a day early, even though we had to pay for it. Accepted that the building is old and has a... more

We arrived and first impressions were very positive, with beautiful grounds, immaculate lawns and bunnies on the loose. The red sandstone building was exactly as you would hope for in a country manse style building. Inside, the lounge and bar area impressed with dark wall panelling and leather chesterfield sofas. Our room was somewhat disappointing, with a window which was... more

We are getting married on the 11th August at Crichton, Dumfries and we booked the whole of the Friars Carse hotel for ourselves and guests to stay in the night of the wedding - 16 double rooms, 3 singles, a family room and a twin room. They had a wedding on the next day but we were assured that the... more

Stayed for a 'Summer Madness' weekend break at the end of April. Yes it is an old building and the paint is chipped here and there but we got a brilliant deal on DBB which included a £21 drinks allowance each night! Although the room was a bit tired it was clean enough and adequate. I found the meals very... more
