The state of the driveway to this country house reflects the care and attention required to this hotel. Both are in urgent need of tender loving care. The sandstone entrance was stained with bird droppings until it was eventually brushed and mopped, but the cleaner forgot the corners which remained untouched and contaminated. This lack of attention to hygiene was... More

We had a voucher deal for a couple of nights B&B with dinner first night. Staff were excellent and very friendly, food was exceptional, but the place lacks love and attention. The snooker room has plenty of cues, but only one has a tip! Very scenic location. Room was ok, shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold - very... More

Beautiful building set in beautiful grounds, however, this did not last when we entered the hotel. When we asked a member of staff if there was a leaflet about the history of the building she said there was not and all that she knew was that the PO bought it some time in the 30's. Our evening meal was a great... More

The hotel took a bit of finding being set well back from the road, but turned out to be worth it in the end, booked via Groupon and received a warm welcome, this is not always the case when using Groupon. We arrived in mid afternoon, and were booked in and shown to our room in a timely manner, it... More

Set well back from the road, this is a quiet and tranquil spot, with the river meandering past the front of the hotel. An impressive building in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly, and understanding of the fact that we arrived very late due to traffic. The room was clean and pleasant, and the breakfast, in the very... More

This was our second stay at Friars Carse. We stayed in August 2014 for a wedding of the daughter of some friends who live close by. We stayed again for two nights, half board. The greeting was friendly and our room was ready for us at 3pm. The room was clean and fresh. We choose to return due to the... More

Can only assume hotel have taken on board some of the negative reviews and addressed many problems. Yes, it is a little 'tired' but a beautiful old building and everything that mattered clean & tidy. The setting is amazing, with river walks, places to sit and watch nature at it's best. Evening meal and breakfast were presented beautifully and cooked... More

We were delighted to return to Dun Baeg having holidayed here before and having stayed at the hotel and eaten there too. There are two self catering cottages in the old stables area, Dun Beag being the smaller with one bedroom with shower and toilet upstairs and a well appointed kitchen and lounge downstairs. It's a very comfortable place with ample room... We booked this with a Groupon offer. Two nights with breakfasts and one two course evening meal. The food was excellent and for a hotel the price of drinks was reasonable, considering there was nothing else within short walking distance. The bedroom was fine although considering the hotel surroundings we didn't have the best view. The grounds are beautiful, and... More
